Why do storks choose Poland over every other country on Earth?

One in four of the world’s white storks — over 52,000 breeding pairs — nests in Poland every summer. Some Polish villages have more stork nests than houses. The village of Żywkowo in northeastern Poland has 40 residents and over 100 storks.

The reason is simple: Poland still has what storks need. Vast wetlands. Traditional farming without industrial pesticides. Wooden rooftops perfect for nesting. Open meadows full of frogs and insects. While Western Europe paved over its marshes, Poland preserved them.

Poland did not just protect its wildlife. It gave them a reason to stay.

For nearly 200 years, the Polish Winged Hussars were the most feared cavalry force in the world. They were virtually undefeated.

Their most famous victory came on September 12, 1683, at the Battle of Vienna — the largest cavalry charge in recorded history. 20,000 Hussars broke through an Ottoman army of 150,000 and saved Western Europe from conquest.

Poland did not just survive history. It changed it.
