My client’s yard had plenty of space and no reason to go outside.
We didn’t pour a patio or buy an outdoor furniture set.
We started with one question:
What does this family actually want to do out here?
1.Eat together.
2.Rest in the shade.
3.Let the kids play on the ground.
So the yard became three outdoor zones:
1. A dining zone/homeschool zone under the pergola, framed with painted lattice and lanterns 🌳
2. A lounge in the dead corner under the tree, with cinder-block benches, cushions and a fabric backdrop 🧺
3. A ground-play spot on the lawn, with rugs, floor cushions and shade cloth Same table.⛺️
Same pergola. Same tree. Every part of the yard just got a job. That’s design-centered homemaking: design the space around how you live, and the space starts doing the work.
