Have you ever thought about having your own hardware brand? If so, give this a read.
Dearest Followers,
I will be making a video about this later but for those of you who the algorithm pushes posts to instead-
I am transitioning out of manufacturing and will instead be
- Designing Products to lease exclusive manufacturing rights to.
- Available for Hire to design products for your brand.
- Available for contract Project Management and Consulting to help you get your hardware business set up and teach you how to manufacture products *with also getting you in touch with the RIGHT manufacturers*.
I'm going to throw a bunch of numbers at you for those who are interested in services and also for those of you who like the "Business side" of my content.
These are made up numbers just to simply things, if you would like REAL numbers and industry tracked information, please contact me and I will send over an NDA.
As an example where it currently stands, let's say UNDEAD HARDWARE produces a Glass Drop Pull for $4 landing cost each handle after manufacturing, shipping and packaging. If I sell that very drop pull for $10 MSRP, I profit $6 per handle. Now typically for YOU as a business buying products from me, its currently set up for 40% wholesale reduced cost ($6 purchase price for you) with a 9% shipping cost of order total which makes your total cost to purchase each k**b $6.54. Your profit would then be $3.46 each k**b, with also the competition of however many other locations across the US are also buying and reselling that very design- along with the restrictions of a wholesale program that I have had to put in place to make sure its a fair opportunity for everyone investing in and selling UNDEAD HARDWARE products. *More numbers to come*
I have and always will make more money selling direct to consumer, however after 4 years of building this business, my passion has ALWAYS been designing. I have currently built UNDEAD HARDWARE to be a niche in the industry and with that, I have had to gatekeep a lot of my information to dominate the market... but truthfully I HATE running a full operation business which many of you know. When I went to sell my business for the second time a few months back, I I was literally in the process of transitioning from furniture hardware over to luxury cabinet hardware and after I was approached for a collaboration/investment opportunity, I told this individual that I was not interested because my goal was to change the entire setup of my business to make ME happier and I didn't want to keep anything the same regardless of partnership or investing, so I told them I would consider selling. After a few weeks of talking, I backed out because I started to realize that in selling my business, I would not only lose my name and all of the weight behind my brand but I would also be essentially teaching someone to be my biggest competitor because at that very point in time, I still had the mentality and plan to "Manufacture and sell designs" but to just chnage over the branding. The problem was, I was still trying to convince myself to do things I personally hated *if I made more money* by changing the industry.
One thing you'll come to learn about me is, no amount of money will ever make me able to get over the creative block from doing something I absolutely hate, and I've tried re-routing MANY times over the last several years to be more fulfilled and when it comes down to it, this full scope operation style of business does not satisfy me. What WOULD satisfy me, is spending my entire days designing and engineering hardware to then have sit-downs with high profile clientele that want to add hardware to their businesses and either sell or lease them my design rights and give them the opportunity to then hire me to teach them how to do it all. If you are a business that already deals in shipping products to customers, you already have EVERYTHING you need to add this section to your business.
..And now instead of paying me $6.54 per k**b that 50 other businesses sell all across the internet, you get to pay the manufacturer directly ($4), my royalty percentage is 10% (so a $10 handle would be $1) and have a design that you and only you sell at higher profit margins than buying wholesale from me instead of the manufacturer, which then allows for you to also price it how you see fit (my products have always been significantly underpriced to cater to furniture artists) and market to your own brand and not my own. We build YOUR brand, YOU have a unique design unavailable to anyone else, YOU make more money, and I get to spend my entire days designing and not dealing with customer service, onboarding accounts, manufacturing, shipping, marketing, and everything else that I absolutely hate doing that your business is already set up for.
This method makes me happier in not only getting to do what I love in the design aspect, but also allows me to help other businesses grow and it not be a direct conflict to me.
I will be very transparent and say that this opportunity is going to be very hard for someone first starting out and would be better suited for an established company that just wants to add a hardware line to their brand. My luxury designs have a hefty purchase price up front and after calculating the time it would take to recover that, it would take about a year for a well established small-business (about 400-800 units sold depending on MSRP of the design), or 2-3 months for a multi-million dollar business. This is based on the COGS *cost of goods sold* towards the investment price and not the overall sale price (you still have to make money while you operate, you can't be putting every dollar made immediately back towards the investment).
If you have the funding and the passion as someone just starting out, that's where my contract hire consulting and project management comes in however as someone who has grown a start up to a semi large small business, it takes a LOT of dedication and I want to make sure your investment is recovered so we can both profit. The more successful your business is, the more successful I am when I am getting royalties per unit sold.
The hardware industry is a massively under-represented industry and with 4 years of full operations in this industry, I know my designs bring a lot of value to the table.
My speciality is Victorian inspired and as of this very moment, I have about 10 designs ready to go to market.
My "Hope" design and my "Glass drop pull" are both available for purchase as well which are currently already being produced and the Hope design I have a lot of stock on hand as well so those can be sold immediately and youre not waiting 4 months for production and shipping.
Please note that all of these numbers have been inflated for easy calculation, and are based on current sale prices and not the luxury pricing. Should you choose to reach out inquiring about any of this, the NDA that you will sign clearly states that you cannot use ANYTHING discussed for personal gain for 5 years- that includes any of my research and propriety information along with industry numbers. This means that by sitting down with me, you cannot then go and start buying, producing, or selling ANY hardware regardless of the brand if you are already not in the industry of doing so prior. I want to be very transparent, this is to protect me from people sitting down with me to then steal my operations without doing any of their own leg work, my experience in this industry is valuable and is not given away for free. If you have been wanting to get into this industry and feel you cannot afford to invest in the design cost, no worries at all, please do not sign the NDA and instead inquire about hiring me as a consultant that way you're not giving your rights away and I am being paid for my expertise.
I want everyone to succeed in this endeavor so while my disclaimer might look a little tacky, I sincerely want to protect everyone involved. 2024 was a nightmare with this very situation and both parties took a large hit financially because of it.

I am still also in the process of figuring out if I am going to change UNDEAD HARDWARE over from a full operations business to just the consulting and designing business and keep my name, or If I am willing to sell the entire business as it stands and just start over with a new designer name... in case you were wondering what is going to come of UNDEAD HARDWARE as it stands currently. If you're interested in buying the business as it stands with the name, SEO, all current inventory and possibly the 2 main customized design rights that are already produced and on the market (Hope and the drop pull), reach out and we can discuss it but bear with me as that's not finely tuned yet
Much love to yall, I am finally for the first time in years feeling like this entire thing is in alligment and I'm no longer sacrificing things for other things. ๐
