You almost certainly already own your fall decor.

The jars from the recycling bin, filled with whatever's on the ground outside. Branches in a vase. A real pumpkin, which you can actually eat, and then compost. Candles you already have, moved to a different table.

We like this season as much as anybody. We just notice that the version in the stores is mostly plastic leaves that get boxed up in November and forgotten by the following October.

That's Riley, and this is what he's constantly restocking.

Fat and the Moon salt spray for when he wants his hair to do something. Meow Meow Tweet's tea tree charcoal bar for his face, their grapefruit deodorant for the rest of him. Davids toothpaste on a brush where you swap the head instead of the whole thing. And the Leaf serum, which is the post-shave one.

He didn't build this in one go. He replaced things as they ran out, and these are the ones that stuck.

Fall's here and we've got a scent to match it.

Warm Flannel just went up on the refill wall. It opens crisp and then settles into something warm underneath. Blanket on the couch, cold evening, a fire going somewhere down the street.

Bring your jar, fill what you need. It's seasonal, so it leaves when fall does.

A pillowcase works. That's tip one.

We made a Halloween guide and it is aggressively not about buying things. Six tips, and most of them are some version of "use what you already have."

Bring your own bag. A pillowcase, a tote, a basket. Fabric markers turn it into a craft night, and it comes back out next year.

Thrift the costume or swap with friends. Most store-bought ones are plastic worn once.

Candy in cardboard or foil beats candy in plastic film. Baking instead? Flour and chocolate chips are in our bulk section.

Decorate with gourds, leaves and pinecones. Carve the pumpkin, roast the seeds, compost the rest.

And the one that matters most: progress, not perfection. Nobody does this perfectly, us included. Do what you can and let the rest go.
