Rooted in Foods

Rooted in Foods At Rooted in Foods, we believe food is more than what’s on the table—it’s a connection to family, culture, and community. Join us for our culinary road trips!

We celebrate local ingredients, honor the traditions that shaped us, and share stories that bring people closer together. Rooted in Foods is a combination of my passion for food and cooking and my love of heritage and tracing my family history. In 2022, our focus has shifted just a bit to American cuisine. We travel - virtually - each Monday night to a different state and prepare traditional food.

We're not focused on restaurants, rather food that you'd find served in someone's home - food that is inherently part of the culture of each state.

This week on The Davises Eat, Chili and I are keeping things simple with a breakfast‑for‑dinner plate that comes together fast. It’s a great option for busy weeknights and weekend breakfasts for a crowd.

We’re starting with local ground pork, seasoning it with The JAY Effect Garlic & Herb, and turning it into a quick sausage. Once it’s cooked down into a crumble, we’ll mix in some cheese, pile it onto English muffins, and give them a few minutes in a hot oven until everything melts together.

Before the sausage mixture goes on, we’re brushing the muffins with Fired Up Jellies & Jams Strawberry Habanero. It adds just enough sweet heat to make the whole bite more interesting without taking over.

Cocktail of the Week

Chili’s mixing a White Russian using Big Muddy Brewing’s coffee liqueur. It’s a cold, smooth counterpoint to the spicy meal.

What We’re Cooking

A relaxed, no‑rush dinner built from familiar pieces.

- Homemade breakfast sausage using local pork and The JAY Effect Garlic & Herb

- Strawberry‑habanero glazed English muffins topped with our sausage and cheese, baked until melty

- Scrambled eggs cooked low and slow with plenty of butter and a little spice.

We’re finding bars in some unique places during our weekend trek. We’re in D Duncan Floristry & Boutique sipping on a martini and margarita and it’s delightful.

This week on The Davises Eat, Chili and I are making sweet, tangy, and smoky pork burgers. We’re mixing the patties with Pink Tiger Farms spices and topping them with bacon and grilled pineapple. Then they’ll get slathered with a homemade ginger‑garlic sauce.

What We’re Cooking

Pork burgers seasoned with Pink Tiger Farms spices, finished with bacon and grilled pineapple

Ginger‑garlic sauce that’s quick to stir together and brightens the burger

Baked beans kicked up with Code 3 Spices BBQ sauce, then onto the smoker to bake.

Cocktail of the Week

Chili is mixing a Hawaiian‑inspired bourbon sour, something a little tropical to match the pineapple on the burgers.

I love all our local wineries, but I’ve known Barb for my entire adult life (and then some?) and love her dearly. Kite Hill Vineyards is a perfect spot for a quiet afternoon with friends with a beautiful view. And they have Wine Wednesdays in the summer/fall, which is when you’ll see me there! 🍷

Rolling hills of lush greenery beamed with life beneath a blanket of brilliant and comfortable warmth as the sun faded on a beautiful April day. If you didn’t know any better and got dropped into these majestic fields, you might think you had been planted in California wine country. Welcome to Kit...
