✨️✨️A custom mixed dahlia bucket order that went out this morning.

✂️ She wanted a great DIY variety of pinks, purples, whites, and greens to have fun and play with.

❤️ If you're curious about what's in this bucket, its dahlias, zinnias, cat mint, peony foliage, sedum, queen Anne's lace, and amaranth, all grown here in our backyard.

✨️✨️A little bit of whimsical, a little bit refined, and a little bit wild. A special thank you bouquet made, and its my first time using these draping amaranth stems.

Only one branching plant came up this year, so we'll try to save the seeds from it to plant even more next year, cause they have such a fun, unusual look to them.

Never grown collerette dahlias before this year, and this pretty one was a gift from a dahlia grower friend in Bay City this spring. She had planted it in a pot from a seed and kept it under grow lights long before it was time to plant outside.

After transplanting it at our place, it was in shock for quite a while and didn't grow any for the longest time. Took forever to bloom.

Dahlia seeds need 120 days in the ground to produce a small cluster of tubers. Generally its best to replant the in tact cluster the following year, and THEN that fall to divide tubers up for getting lots more plants when you go to plant in the spring.

Some people grow purely for the beauty of it out in their garden.

While we appreciate the beauty God has created, we are a cut flower farm, and are looking for strong stems for florists to use, with plants tall enough for us to cut deep for tall stems.

Some new to us dahlias this year that we planted are keepers for sure, and some are just didn't make the cut. Skinny, more flimsy stems that look lovely if you want pops of color in your garden, but aren't as robust for floral design work.

So if you are looking at buying tubers from us in the spring of 2027, be sure to let us know if you are wanting good varieties to use as cut flowers yourself, or if you just want the plants to look pretty out in your yard mainly.

Two of the varieties we sold this past spring, Red Jill and Yellow Jill, it was brought to our attention that the customer thought it funny how the flowers grow almost a foot above the foliage. And because we just were paying attention to if they were good cut flowers or not, and not necessarily the plant's shape, it didn't cross our minds till our friend kindly brought it to our attention.

So NOW that we're aware, we'll be more intentional to ask what kind of purpose you want to plant your dahlias. Purely to look at them in the garden and deadhead only if necessary, or if you want to have strong, tall stems for growing cut flowers yourself.

If matters. 😉

✨️ ✨️Need fresh locally grown flowers from here in Caro?! ✨ ️✨️

✂️ We harvest all our cut flowers, amaranth, and grasses that are prime, every Thursday, to go on a delivery run to Bay City, Saginaw, and Caro, where florists shop out of our vehicle.

❤️BUT if YOU need bulk DIY buckets, let us know in a message the date you want to pick them up by and what color scheme you're going for, and we can make it happen! Loads of dahlias ready for harvest on Mondays too.

🥰You may have noticed that every once in a while we make brown paper wrapped bouquets for easy porch pickup from our place. Those who have stopped by, THANK YOU!!!

💐Some weeks there is too much going on, and THIS week, Flowers by Grace in Cass City, MI is going to be making $20 bouquets the next couple days using flowers from today's harvest! So message her that you want to swing by her floral shop and grab some ready to go stunning bouquets, just because you want to surprise someone with them, or cause you want something pretty on the table yourself!

👰‍♀The last Thursday we do have a local bride who has reserved ALL our flowers for that week, but besides that, feel free to shoot us a message if you want bulk buckets, a mixture, or a wrapped bouquet on a certain date. It would be our pleasure. ❤️

Flowers by Grace in Cass City will be making pretty stunning bouquets this week for easy pickup from her shop, with dahlias grown right here on our little family flower farm in Caro.

🌷 Enjoy pretty and fresh girly flowers?

💐✂️I'm self taught when it comes to making bouquets, and I REALLY enjoy seeing the artistic flair other local florists add using dahlias especially!

My grandma grew them, and I've always thought them SO pretty! No wonder they are known as designer wedding flowers!

Sweet Beets Floral is one of the florists we deliver to in Saginaw on our Bay City, Saginaw, and Caro on Thursdays, where they either special order ahead of time, or shop out of our vehicle.

✂️She's working on the gorgeous florals for this coral, pinks, and blue themed wedding. Can you spy some of our dahlias and zinnias in there? 🔎👀

Ever found yourself needing to work smarter, not harder?

I enjoy making bouquets, and so do our kids. But we found that they can be VERY time consuming.

That's mostly why we decided it best to not do the roadside stand anymore, cause it took so much time, and wasn't very profitable. Eric didn't want me to have a full time job either.

Investing in our children, working together, and training them was and still is important.

And simplifying life with having a baby this past spring. Not planting near as much. Not trying to run ourselves ragged. To pick some main priorities business wise, and drop the rest.

Decided to focus on the floral shop delivery run once a week, and bulk buckets for local pickup if people wanted to buy directly from our small little family flower farm.

But really helped us consider even more, a better way to do bouquets. Her main income is generated from farmers market bouquets, and though we've decided as husband and wife that after selling at farmers market for 6 years early in our marriage with another of our home businesses, The Reclaimed Nation, it was best for our growing family to not continue doing the farmers market. We like to do things together as a family. God has always provided for our needs. But sometimes our 6 space booth would get so busy, i wondered if ever someone would walk off with one of our children, and I'd never see them again.

So we decided the farmers market would not be a good fit for our family.

But Trademark Farmer showed a better way of building bouquets by using a recipe and assembly line, drastically saving time. To think through price per stem, and more accurately price your bouquets, instead of selling yourself short for the value.

That's been the hard part for me.

But its been helpful to learn.

With dahlias, Ranunculus, peonies, all of it.

We know, as it says in Proverbs, a good name is to be chosen rather than great riches.

To show integrity.

That's been a key verse for all our home businesses.

Sometimes that means loosing money to do the right thing. But its worth it.

We represent Jesus Christ in how we run our businesses, and humbly want to represent Him well.

✂️This morning's harvest from our little family flower farm.

💐Dahlias, sedum, zinnias, amaranth, foxtail grasses, and marigolds.

🚗These went on our weekly floral shop run to Bay City, Saginaw, and Caro. A florist special requested corals and pinks for a wedding she's working on. We'll see if there are any leftovers today after Eric and our girls get back, to build wrapped bouquets with, that you can pick up with easy porch pick up from our home.
