One of the biggest advantages of thoughtful and detailed architectural planning is clarity early in the process. We call this Vision Discovery.

When clients can fully understand how: the scale, lighting, materials, the flow and the overall experience of the home before construction begins, better decisions get made at each step in the design process.

Not only does this create a more cohesive final result, it eliminates client confusion and helps reduce costly revisions and uncertainty during construction.

The goal of our process is never to create beautiful images. It’s to help clients move through the design with confidence and excitement!

There is a difference between seeing a home and experiencing it. The warmth of exposed timber. The way light moved from one space to the next. The balance of materials. Both bold and restrained.

Each space is shaped not just by how it looks, but how it meant to be lived in.

That is where design becomes something more!

This wasn’t just a renovation
it was a strategic shift.

The client wanted a larger, light-filled kitchen
so we relocated it.

In its place, we created a dedicated dining space
designed for gathering and connection.

Because great design isn’t about improving what exists
it’s about creating what’s missing.

Stay tuned to see where the kitchen moved—and how it transformed the entire home.

Most people walk past spaces like this and never realize what is inside.

What makes Casa Materiae work is not what was added, but what was understood. The structure, the vaults, and the weight of the materials already define the experience. The design steps in with restraint, introducing light, comfort, and calm without taking away from what is already there.

It is a quiet balance between past and present, and when it is done well, you do not just stay in the space, you feel it.

Comment “Rome” and we will send you the link to the Airbnb!

Avoid Costly Surprises in Your Luxury Home with VR……

Most custom homes go wrong because clients don’t fully understand the design until it’s too late.

Before construction, our clients step inside their completed design experiencing it in real scale through VR.

It’s how decisions become clear and how costly changes are avoided.

Most people underestimate what it takes to build a home in another country.

Different systems. Different expectations. Different ways of building. The challenge isn’t just the design. It’s navigating the entire process with clarity.

That’s where the right team changes everything and having one architects from each side of the pacific matters!

I’m honored to have been invited to join the Forttuna Business Council. This will be an incredible opportunity to contribute to a broader conversation with leaders across industries, and to bring a perspective shaped by architecture, lifestyle, and the environments that quietly shape how we live, feel, and experience the world around us. Thank you Forttuna for the invitation to be part of a community shaping meaningful conversations around leadership and long-term impact.

Where does architecture and material selection really begin?

We traveled to southern Spain to observe firsthand - from the quarries where raw earth is extracted to the labs and showrooms where those materials are transformed into the surfaces shaping homes and commercial buildings around the world.

Standing in the quarry changes how you think about design. Architecture doesn't start with drawings.

It starts with ideas. Ideas that rise from the earth.
Would seeing where materials originate change the way you design your spaces?

Swipe for an unexpected architectural observation from our travels through Spain, Italy, and Dubai…

Cats understand architecture.

They gravitate toward
sun-warmed stone walls,
quiet thresholds,
shaded courtyards,
and elevated ledges overlooking the street.

In many ways, they instinctively choose the same architectural elements we admire — texture, shelter, light, and perspective.Which might reveal something important.

Good architecture invites life.Sometimes that life just happens to have four paws.

Which cat found the best architecture?

You live inside the light.

Inside the material palette.

Inside the way the window meets the horizon.

Inside the way a ceiling height changes how you feel when you wake up.

And yet, most homes are still designed where form and function are resolved first and interiors are treated as a separate layer added layer.

At the residential scale, interiors are not decoration. They are the vibrancy of the architectural experience. In episode 3 of our Piha DesignTalk series, filmed on location in New Zealand, we explore how interiors can be shaped directly by the natural landscape. This episode is now live! I invite you to watch and experience Piha, New Zealand with me! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP-jUZ7uKoc&t=3s

Tomorrow I am heading to Auckland, New Zealand for the Cross Pacific Design Group Launch on February 17th.

In Episode 3 of DesignTalk, we step inside a coastal Airbnb in Piha to explore how interior architecture shapes the experience of place. From curved entries a...
