These are colors that the Division of Developmental Disabilities (D.D.D.) gave to me, and this is the painting I made! -Gauge Guillen
As Gauges Mom, seeing him being handed a blank canvas, and 8 different colors of spray paint and seeing the outcome, is astonishing!
There was something about this painting that made me so emotional. D.D.D has helped in so many ways since Gauge was 6 years old by providing, speech therapy, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, guidance, and so much more. But this, this painting symbolizes something incredibly different! This is something that Gauge needed no guidance, no coaching, no hand over hand help, in fact, he is self taught!
Painting is something that not only Gauge can completely do independently, but something that helps him be independent, and shows his creativity.
He loves getting new paint, he loves seeing the outcome of every painting he makes, he loves the social interaction when he talks to someone about his paintings, and he loves when he can buy himself something from the money he makes fully on his own with every painting he sells.
Thank you all for your support!!
It truly means the world to Gauge, and our whole family. 💗
