Despite the lack of sleep for the last three years, staying up late to finish last minute orders, and everything in between, Ashley finds time to be the best mother a family could ask for. Sweet peas get me every year. We don’t grow very may of them, so I treasure their scent for as long as I can. If you’ve never smelled a sweet pea before, this is your sign to come by the stand this weekend to grab a bunch!

The field is about to explode with so many stems. We are kicking this week off by corralling and trellising because things are growing very quickly and with our winds and torrential rainstorms we get here in Wilmington we’re doing everything we can to protect them.

More winter farming scenes. Starting a new field, with a little supervision as another cold week settles in.

The fields are filling up quickly, thousands more seedlings are started, and just when it feels like we should be slowing down, I seem to find one more thing to do. Miraculously, we’re still (somehow) on schedule.

Can’t wait to share this space with you!

It always feels so ruthless to pull a crop before it blooms, but farming is full of decisions like this. Warm weather pushed this crop to grow faster than we could get our netting on. And knowing when to call it a loss helps us protect our precious bed space for a stronger and healthier flower for you to pick.
