LAST CALL!🌲

I’ll be pouring candles in the next few days, so this is your chance to place orders for new candles for holiday gifting or drop off your refills to enjoy in the coming weeksšŸŽ

Please note: There may be a delay in refill times during the holidays as I take time over break to be with my crew!✨

A HUGE thank you for the candle support this monthšŸ«¶šŸ¼

There’s such beauty in knowing yourself and staying true to it. If this year has taught me anything, it’s to stay open and soft—even when life and circumstances may push you to harden. With that, I’m excited to share a new adventure! This journey wouldn’t be possible without embracing the connections that open doors.

For those who’ve followed along, you know my love for artisan design and creating meaningful spaces that connect us to stories and cultures beyond our own. Last year in Palestine, I met Maura, the owner of Creative Women, while on a UNDP-sponsored buyer trip. Our connection grew over the past year, leading to an incredible opportunity: I’ll be joining Creative Women as the Creative Brand Director and will be traveling to Ethiopia next week to celebrate the brand’s 20th year, as well as product development.

Follow along at as I continue to share my love of handmade goods in a new space. And stick around here for continued stories about artisan craft, travel, DS candles and more!

HišŸ‘‹šŸ½ What started as a candle update (which I am excited to share) has turned into more of a life updatešŸ™ƒ I haven’t posted much on this platform since closing, so I was surprised my little story yesterday got so much love. It’s truly the interactions with so many of you I miss the most about actively running a B+M space (thank you and miss you)šŸ«¶šŸ¼

When closing, I alluded to next steps for DS, which weren’t finalized at that time and have since fallen through. It was-yet another- end/change to a dream, but this one ended before it even had wings to fly.

My focus this past summer & fall has been both inward and what’s right in front of me (my humans and furry or feathered petsšŸ˜‚) for what I have deemed a ā€œwellness journey.ā€ It hasn’t been without a bit of floundering, but the change of pace and renewed attention to family has brought healing. Surprisingly so much healing has been found in the kitchenšŸ«¶šŸ¼ Things like making and canning applesauce this week, harvesting our potatoes over the weekend, or batch making pesto from our garden basil… there’s a reason the simple tasks of connecting to the earth and the people who share in the food bring forth steady rhythms of what’s important- the true ingredients of slowing the mind and heart to be open and ready to receive what’s next.

I still believe there’s a continuation to this DS journey… it just hasn’t landed quite yet.

I do, however, have some fun news to share in the world of candle making! My friend, Kendra, has adoringly inquired about carrying my candles at her lovely establishment, šŸ¤ Starting today, DS candles will be available for purchase ($30 for 100% Natural Coconut Soy Wax + sustainable wood wick & bamboo lid in a fair trade glass container candle) during OPEN hours at The Ragged Edge Art Bar and Gallery, including my seasonal Autumn Leaves scent! The first to purchase one, will have a $15 Ragged Edge gift certificate waiting for you as a thank you and to have a drink on me (Ghostflower is my current favorite on their fall menu)šŸ„€

I’m still providing Candle Refill services, so feel free to DM if you would like to get some of your DS candles refilledāœŒšŸ½

sending my love,
Kelsie

Driftless Style Candles & Refills are still available✨

There must be something in the air, because I’ve received several messages the past few days asking about candle refills. And YES, I am continuing to pour candles from my home studio. Send a DM for more info, but I will be doing some refills in the coming days if you want to get in on this roundšŸ«¶šŸ¼

I turned in the keys šŸ”‘ this past week & from the beginning (swipe for circa Jan 2019) to this change, there’s a few things I’m walking away with… Starting something new takes courage because of the risk of ā€œfailure.ā€ But I daresay that ending something- and knowing when to end- takes more courage than all of it combined. At the beginning, there was so much hope and excitement to carry me through the risks, but in this moment or rather at the precipice several months ago, what could’ve been deemed a failure in a worldly sense, I realize that it’s absolutely not that at all. It’s been a beautiful stepping stone in this journey that’s giving way to something newšŸ«¶šŸ¼

A friend shared with me an excerpt from a book that’s been so good for this season, and regardless if it’s a change to a business, I hope it speaks to you, too. ā€œYou’re in a new place and a new way because of your wanderings and wonderings, your doubts and possibilities, your healing and your hope, let alone the larger stories of your community and your people and your place… It takes such holy audacity to choose a new path when the old ways turn into dead ends for you.ā€ -Sarah Bessey

The courage to start, pursue & change AND my audacity to dream this vision of DS in the first place are the reminders of my strength, not failure. This past year has unlocked in me my true entrepreneurial spirit (which I often felt was imposter syndrome) to adjust and grow a new way of keeping DS alive because the current model was no longer sustainable. More on this in the future. But right now, having taken the month of June to sort and pair down on more things than just a brick and mortar space, I want to thank all the people here in this beautiful community (online and local) that supported DS from the start to the closing sale at 106 Main Street✨ Although there are several unknowns I continue to mull over for what’s to come as it specifically relates to DS, I plan to make some changes/pauses to the website and I will continue making and refilling DS candles from my candle studio. I’ll be heading ā€˜out of the office’ in the coming week for some much needed R&R with Tyler and will circle back around at a later timeā˜€ļø
