🖤📖 Book Review: The Devil Wears Black by L.J. Shen📖🖤

One thing I consistently love about L.J. Shen’s writing is her ability to weave darkness, grief, and emotional realism into a romance while still delivering hope and a satisfying happy ending. Her stories never feel overly polished or unrealistic—people break up, families struggle, loved ones pass away, and emotions get messy. That balance makes her books feel much more grounded and emotionally impactful to me.

The Devil Wears Black delivered all the tension and drama I love in a romance: fake dating, billionaire romance, enemies-to-lovers energy, emotional baggage, and characters who are deeply flawed but compelling. The chemistry between the characters kept me invested the entire time, especially with all the unresolved history and tension between them.

While I did feel like the ending wrapped up a little quickly, and there were certain parts of the story I wish had been explored or expanded on more deeply, overall this was still a really enjoyable read.

It was emotional, dramatic, messy in the best ways, and ultimately a romance that balanced heartbreak and healing really well. ✨

🥀📖 Book Review: Beautiful Graves by L.J. Shen 📖🥀

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to throttle a FMC more while reading a book 😭 and yet somehow, that’s part of what made this story feel so painfully real.

Beautiful Graves was emotional, heartbreaking, messy, beautiful, and deeply human all at once. It’s a story filled with love, grief, fear, and the complicated ways people cope with pain and trauma. I found myself completely invested from beginning to end, anxiously hoping for a happy ending while emotionally suffering through every twist and turn along the way.

What made this story stand out most to me was how relatable the FMC’s struggles felt. Fear has a way of quietly taking control of our lives, influencing decisions, relationships, and the paths we choose—even when those choices hurt us or the people around us. Watching that unfold throughout the story was frustrating at times, but also incredibly honest and believable.

And then there’s Joe 🖤 The kind of person so many people wish they had in their lives—someone who stays, supports, loves deeply, and continues showing up even when things get difficult. His loyalty and patience brought so much heart to this story.

This book absolutely put me through an emotional wringer, but I’m so glad it ultimately delivered the happy ending I was desperately hoping for. A beautifully painful read that lingers long after the final page. ✨

🖤♟️ Series Review: Society of Villains by L.J. Shen ♟️🖤

So far, only the first two books in this planned seven-book series have been released, and after finishing Bad Bishop and Twisted Pawn, I am both completely hooked and devastated that I now have to impatiently wait for the rest 😭

This mafia family dark romance series immediately sucked me in. I love that each book focuses on a different couple within the same family while still continuing the larger storyline and interconnected dynamics. It makes the world feel layered, messy, and incredibly immersive.

Honestly, I can’t even decide which book I liked more because each couple brought something completely different to the table. The characters feel raw, flawed, and realistic, carrying real trauma and emotional baggage instead of feeling overly polished or romanticized. The relationships themselves aren’t easy either, which made them feel so much more compelling to me.

One thing I especially appreciated about Bad Bishop was the representation of a deaf FMC and how deeply that aspect shaped both the storyline and character dynamics. It added so much depth and emotion to the story rather than feeling like a surface-level detail.

Then Twisted Pawn came in with a true love/hate relationship dynamic—and not in the cute, playful kind of way. The tension, conflict, emotional damage, and chemistry between the characters had me fully invested from beginning to end.

What I really love about this series overall is that while both books deliver happy endings, they don’t feel overly soft or cutesy. The stories still maintain their darker emotional edges, which fits the tone of the series perfectly.

And that second book? It absolutely started dropping hints about future couples, upcoming struggles, and potential pairings, and now I’m completely on edge waiting to see how every single storyline unfolds 👀📚
