More first try recipes — this one is a cream cheese poundcake. I riffed and added vanilla, nutmeg, salt and some raspberries that needed a good purpose before going bad. Great result — and great reaction from the office. 😉. Will make again soon.

I admit my photo file is filled with social media screen shots of recipes I want to try. This one seems simple and I could use some simple in my life these days. Tomorrow night Ill cut this recipe in half and try it in a bread pan. Ill take it Saturday to treat the event team Ill lead on the Summerfest Grounds. The goodness of trial baking leads to the goodness of sharing. Bake something this weekend and follow my lead — share it with people who appreciate a home made treat.

Im always looking for great flavor combinations. And my visit to Salt & Straw let me get adventurous. A scoop of Strawberry Tres Leches (safe bet) was followed by a scoop of Rhubarb Crumble with Anise (licorice?!). The second scoop was a spectacular, surprisingly good option. I also tried the Pear & Blue Cheese flavor — great but not enough to tolerate a full scoop.

In life, lean into the little things that bring you joy. In my case the universe brought me in contact with this incredible edible. It took three meals to finish it. And it was worth it.

Last night I made the best gingersnap cookie I know how to make. Candied ginger. Molasses. Warm spices. And I forgot to take a picture. I managed to eat two for breakfast and through the swooning packed up the rest and gifted them this afternoon. They were glorious. Sigh.

Friday night and trying another gingerbread recipe — this one a mashup with iced oatmeal. A solid and flavorful cookie. My royal icing technique is getting better. But this cookie isn’t the shape I want. Ill try again for a wetter dough that makes a flatter cookie. Good thing I have takers for this attempt which clears the way for another go.

I received another Debs family (mom’s side) recipe card file and am smiling knowing at some holiday every member of the family probably received these a gifts. And one oddball.

Two test cookie recipes made and dough is chilling in the refrigerator. First up: a gingersnap cookie from Chez Panisse. Next: chocolate chunk shortbread with flaky sea salt. Both will be baked on Friday. Stay tuned for results and tasting notes. ❤️
