A trend can't see your house.

That's the whole problem with picking a look from a screen. The room on TV was built for the camera. Your room has your light, your ceiling, your furniture, and your family in it. We've spent 32 years making looks work in real rooms, and the trend is never the hard part. The fitting is.

The saddest sentence we hear in this job is "we never use that room."

Nobody buys a home planning to avoid a quarter of it. It happens slowly. The room feels off, so you stop going in, and eventually the door might as well be a wall.

Here's what we've learned in 32 years: that room is almost never beyond saving.

Carla's A Classic Design here. That tiny coffee table wasn't staged to trick you. We walk into real homes in Centennial, Greenwood Village, and Highlands Ranch and find exactly that, in beautiful rooms the family worked hard on.

The reason it happens is simple. You fall in love with a table by itself, in a store, with nothing around it. It's the right table. It's just the wrong size for the sofa waiting at home.

Nobody tells you that decorating has an order to it. So people start with the fun part, the paint color, and then spend months trying to find a sofa that gets along with a wall.

Here's the other half, and we didn't have room for it in the video. Once you've picked a fabric you love, take the sample home before you commit. Store lighting, ours included, is nobody's living room. Look at it by your window in the afternoon, then again at night with your lamps on. It can be two different colors.

Carla's A Classic Design was never supposed to be a store at all.

It started in a basement in 1995, the year we moved here from Texas. It grew slowly at first, and then all at once. By the end there were semi trucks pulling up to a residential street to unload, on a road that was never built for freight.

A real store was the obvious next step, and I didn't know the first thing about running one. But my husband knew how. He told me we could do it.

He's gone now. Every year this company has had since then traces back to that conversation.

Thirty-one years later our son, our daughter and our daughter-in-law are all in the business with me. 🤍

One house, last December.

We walked in that morning to a house with nothing up. By the afternoon the tree, the staircase, the mantel and the front entry were all done. The family picked the look. Everything else arrived in our truck.

Most people don't know they can just hire someone to do all of that for them. They assume a decorator is for magazine houses, and this is a normal home about fifteen minutes from our store.

For thirty-one years our design team has been doing this across Centennial, Greenwood Village and Highlands Ranch, and we plan your Christmas decorating the same way we'd design a whole room, the colors, the sizes, how it all fits together.

The calendar opened last week and the December dates are already moving. 🎄

Everybody sees the finished store. Almost nobody sees this part.

Before a single Christmas piece goes out, every shelf has to be stripped and restocked. Summer comes off, fall goes on, and a few weeks later fall comes off and Christmas takes its place. It is genuinely the least glamorous work we do all year.

It's also the reason the store looks the way it does when you finally walk in. You can't set up a whole new store on top of the old one.

Thirty years of doing this and we've never filmed it before. This year we are, start to finish. 🎄

What's the least glamorous part of your holiday setup? Ours is the ladders.

Getting a rug right costs you nothing but a tape measure. Getting it wrong means you keep changing things and the room still never looks right.

And most people try to fix that feeling by buying more things. A bigger lamp, another chair, more art. None of which can fix a problem that's sitting on the floor.

We watch the same sequence over and over. Three rugs bought, two returned, one kept because everybody got tired of deciding. And the room still feels like something's missing.

It isn't missing anything. Your couch and chairs are just sitting off the edge of the rug instead of on it.

Whether your furniture is the right size for the room is the thing that makes it work, and almost nobody gets taught to check it. 📐

The tree, the staircase, the mantel — done in an afternoon, and you never touch a bin. 🎄

For 30 years our design team has been walking into Denver homes and building the holidays to each home's own scale — the same eye we bring to a full room design, pointed at your garland and your tree. Some families have had us back nine years straight.
