I already know the first question you are going to ask me.

How quickly can we get started?

And I love that question because it tells me you are ready. You are done living with the room that isn't working. You are done putting it off. You are ready to do this.

Here is what I need you to know about how we start.

The beginning of my process is intentionally slow. There is a discovery call where I ask you questions most designers never think to ask. There is a design concept phase where we make every major decision on paper before a single contractor picks up a tool. There is a planning process that looks quiet from the outside and is actually doing the heaviest lifting of the entire project.

I know it can feel like nothing is happening yet. I promise you something is happening.

Every decision we make together at the front end is one less change order, one less delay, one less moment where you are standing in the middle of your kitchen wondering how it went sideways. The clients who trust the process are the ones who send me photos of their finished spaces and say it was the smoothest thing they have ever done.

The time we spend at the beginning saves you ten times that on the back end.

Trust the process. Come along for the journey. 🤍

Every fireplace wall needs three things. This one has all of them.

An antique. A focal point. And one nod to something current, used with restraint.

The surround is from the 1800s. I found it and knew immediately it was going somewhere in my home. There is a weight and a detail to something that old that no reproduction ever fully captures. It commands the room without trying to.

The fireplace itself is the focal point- which sounds obvious until you see how many rooms bury theirs behind a television, a gallery wall, or furniture that fights it for attention. A fireplace should be the first thing your eye goes to. Everything else should support it.

And the shiplap. I know, I know- shiplap is everywhere. But there is a reason it keeps showing up and that reason is texture. Used quietly, as a backdrop rather than the main event, it adds dimension without announcing itself. The key word is quietly.

One antique. One focal point. One trend used with intention.

That is the formula. Every time.

Same bones. Completely different soul.

This is what happens when a room stops being managed and starts being designed.

The before had good architecture- soaring ceilings, great light, real bones. But nothing was talking to each other. The furniture was heavy and pulling toward the floor. The walls were fighting the warmth in the room instead of lifting it. The space had potential it had never been given permission to reach.

The after lets the room breathe. The stone fireplace gets to be the centerpiece it was always meant to be. The color on the walls works with the light instead of against it. The furniture is scaled for the space, not just placed in it. The coastal accents feel collected rather than themed. And that chandelier, finally a fixture worthy of those ceilings.

This is what full-service design does. It takes what is already there and makes it make sense.

Every home has good bones. Not every home has found them yet.

I have certifications in color, staging, and e-design. Here is what that actually means when you hire me.

The color certification means I am not guessing. Color theory, undertones, how light changes a color throughout the day, how adjacent colors affect each other- I understand the science behind why a paint color that looked perfect on the chip looks completely wrong on your wall. That knowledge protects you from expensive mistakes.

The staging certification means I know how to make a space read. How furniture placement affects how a room feels. How to create flow. How to edit. Most people think staging is just for selling a house, it is actually one of the most useful skills in everyday design because it teaches you to see a room the way a stranger sees it.

The e-design certification means I can serve clients wherever they are. Not everyone needs someone in their home every week. Some projects are better suited to a collaborative digital process- and I can deliver a full, professional design experience that way.

Three certifications. Three different ways I show up better for your project.

If you are ready to work with someone who brings all of it to the table, I would love to hear about your home. Link below to book a discovery call. 🤍

Refresh or remodel. It sounds like a simple question until you are actually standing in your kitchen trying to decide whether to paint the cabinets or gut the whole thing.

Here is the honest answer: it depends on what your home actually needs, not what feels exciting or what you saw on Instagram last week.

A refresh is cosmetic and targeted. A remodel is structural and comprehensive. Both can be transformative when the right choice is made for the right reasons.

Swipe through for the full breakdown, and if you are still not sure which path is yours, that is what the discovery call is for.

I spend most of my days talking about how someone else’s home should feel. This week was my own reminder of the answer.

This year celebrates fifty years of Garnet Hill- a company that my parents started with the dream of bringing flannel sheets to the US.

From a glorious catered luncheon of under the tent filled with current and past employees to my own backyard where former employees + friends trading stories- some after meeting again 42 years later.

It was a truly magical time.

The decorations were minimal (some Fall items from the garage) + flowers sourced from the yard. Nobody talked about the paper plates or the dollar store table covers. Instead, everybody reminisced with those around them.

Sometimes it’s a glorious get together and other times, it’s a casual shindig where you’re the only one not stressing about it!

A home works when it makes room for the people in it. That’s the whole job.

Same house, two living rooms, two completely different moods.

The first is made for conversation, with two swivel chairs facing the sofa, a stone fireplace as the anchor, and a glass coffee table that keeps the room from feeling crowded.

The second is where the family actually lands at the end of the day: deep navy, a reclaimed wood coffee table that can handle feet and board games, and a throw within arm’s reach of every seat.

Neither room had to match the other. They just had to make sense for how this family uses them.

Which one would you curl up in first?

Fall decorating has a reputation problem. Every surface with a pumpkin on it, everything smelling like a candle aisle.

That's not what makes a room feel like the season changed. It's texture, warmth, and editing before you add.

Swipe through for the approach I actually use with clients, and save this one. You'll want it in a few weeks.

Big windows, open floorplan, zero walls to hide behind. We let the sectional and coffee table do the work of defining "living room" here, then kept everything else quiet: warm woods, soft neutrals, a few blues for depth, so those arched windows could stay the star.

Good design doesn't always mean adding more. Sometimes it means getting out of the way.
