Face of bag is 9” by 9”. This is not something I have ever seen. It is a Nigerian Yoruba diviner’s bag. Hand beaded flap covers inside pocket. These bags were carried by holy men and used to hold portable divining tools. Diviners were sometimes called “akapo” or “carriers of bags”. All joking aside I am feeling this is a very highly respected object important to the faith of the Yoruba. It is certainly a beautiful work of art. Historically these were only carried by those who mediated between the human and spiritual world. Open today til five.

According to the back of this little dish this is Lord Nelson Ware. Why do I not believe that Lord Nelson had anything to do with this? Briar Rose is the pattern. eBay has similar items listed for $30 to $60. Kind of silly, if you ask me. This guy is $10.00 here at The Stray Dog. “Sweet meat dish”? It is all a puzzle to me.
