Some projects are simply more personal than others. Meet Old Saulty...
This 1956 Thompson boat was brought back to life by my husband, Jonathon, who painstakingly restored him by hand by stripping and sanding the original woodwork, repairing what could be saved, replacing what couldn’t, and carefully refinishing each detail while preserving the character that made him so special in the first place.
Our part was giving Old Saulty his next chapter: crisp white, soft blue, warm wood, classic black, a custom striped bimini, tailored cushions, and thoughtful details designed around the way we actually wanted to use him. Including, of course, a custom table made with w**e glasses and an inevitable charcuterie board in mind.
This summer, you could usually find Old Saulty moving slowly through the Daniel Island creeks with good company aboard, a glass of w**e poured, and nowhere in particular to be.
Next stop: the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show. We can’t wait to take him down the coast, show him off a little, and celebrate the craftsmanship that inspired this restoration from the very beginning. Stay tuned...
