If you're starting to see brown circles or patches in your zoysia or centipede lawn, it could be large patch disease.

To help prevent it, ease back on watering this time of year and water early in the morning. A preventive disease control product in the fall can also help your lawn head into winter healthier.

Already seeing it? Treat it with a disease control product labeled for large patch, and always follow the product label.

The best time to fight winter w**ds is before they show up. 🍂

A fall pre-emergent works in the soil to stop w**d seeds like henbit, chickw**d and Poa annua from taking root as they sprout. It won’t touch w**ds that are already growing, so timing is everything.

Here in Charleston, temperatures are finally dropping, and soils across much of the South are cooling below 70°F. That’s when winter w**ds start to germinate. In South Florida and South Texas, check your soil temperature first. Farther north, your window may be closing soon.

Mowing season is winding down, but don’t put the mower away just yet 🍂

Raising your mower a notch this time of year helps your grass build deeper roots before it goes dormant for winter.

And as always, never take off more than 1/3 of the blade at once.

Annual or perennial ryegrass: which is right for your winter overseed?

Annual ryegrass: Budget-friendly, fast to germinate and slightly better in shade. Lasts one season.

Perennial ryegrass: Finer texture, darker green color and better disease resistance. Costs more up front but can return year after year in cooler climates.

Both germinate in 5 to 7 days and keep warm season lawns green through winter.

Still deciding? Our guide breaks down the pros and cons of each.

Don't settle for a brown lawn this winter. Now is the time to overseed!

As your warm season grass starts to go dormant, overseeding with ryegrass keeps your lawn green all winter long. It's simple, DIY-friendly and best done before your first freeze.

Here's the quick version:
1. Test your soil.
2. Choose annual or perennial ryegrass.
3. Spread seed in a crisscross pattern and rake it in.
4. Water daily to keep the soil moist while seed establishes.

Was your lawn hit by Hurricane Isaias last week? Standing water, saltwater flooding and erosion can leave grass struggling, but most lawns can bounce back with the right care.

Start with these three steps:
1. Check for hazards like downed lines and debris before you begin cleanup.
2. Restore drainage by clearing gutters and aerating waterlogged areas.
3. Hold off on fertilizing for a few weeks so stressed grass can recover.

Our full guide walks you through all 10 steps, from flushing out salt to protecting your yard before the next storm: https://sodsolutions.com/sod-university/how-to-recover-your-lawn-from-hurricane-damage/
