I often get asked questions about my background, and I love to share my story.💗
I'm actually an architect-turned-interior designer. I graduated from UNC Charlotte with degrees in architecture back in 1999, and I spent the next ten years in commercial architecture, working my way up to Senior Associate at a firm here in Charlotte. I loved the discipline of it, the problem solving, the way a building actually gets built.
But something in me kept pulling toward the interiors, the color, the layering, the parts of a space that make it feel like someone lives there.
In 2009, I started Evaru Design to finally focus on residential work. Then in 2017, I rebranded as Ashley DeLapp Interior Design, and that's the studio you know today.
My architecture background still shows up in everything I do. It's why I think about a room as a full system, not just furniture and paint. Flow, function, and structure come first, and then I get to layer in the bold color and vintage pieces that make a space feel like art you can actually live in.
