Porches are fun design projects. Think comfort, think simple. Think color in small doses. Remember your guests add color and take up visual space.
Think about the uses for your porch and allow walkway space. If you and your guests enjoy water activities, where are the wet towels and swimwear to be hung? Using deck railings a no-no--Blocks the lake view for those more into passive use of your space.
If your retreat space overlooks the beauty of the mountains, it's all about the view, comfy chairs, quick access to light weight throws and multiple outdoor boot and shoe trays work wonders at keeping moss and small gravel imbedded in those tire track shoe bottoms from scratching floor finishes. Boot trays with stiff brush runs are easy finds. Over oversized flannel shirts freshly laundered in your favorite colors are good, one-size-fits-all to hang near the door for a quick morning jog. Comfort wear with sleeves can be easily tied around the waist when the sun crawls up above the mountain
ridge or just beyond a glassy watery cove.
Enjoy! PS, mirrors and art are must haves with favorite porch plants. I love lacy Boston ferns and adore the Texas fern (must have space, not just air space) with seasonal colors showing up in healthy flowering plants that don't have to have show off cache pots competing with their short life. Careful to not over-water. We all tend to do just that. Save your decorative, showy flower pots for quieter green plants or succulents. I rather like bird nest natural looking containers for succulents. This year the lacy-ruffled tulips in red-orange brought joy to those enjoying early spring. Cool air and diminished sunshine often creeps into these mornings.
