After a few unexpected delays, we are almost done with this custom made cedar chest. We will make and attach a lid and rope handles Monday. The exterior will get stained/sealed with Varthane Polyshades Black Cherry and the inside will be left natural.

Today we started on a cedar chest that will measure 26" L x 24" deep x 24" tall excluding the locking casters. We are using reclaimed cedar fence pickets for this project. We used the planer to remove the patina and get them all to a uniform thickness of 1/2" and pretty much flat by planing both sides. Next we used the miter saw to cut them to length. The table saw and a level were then used to get a streight edge on one side by running the board thru the saw at the same time as the level. That transfers the streight edge of the level to the opposite edge of the board as long as both the board and level are moved at the same time. Then we cut the boards, with the new streight edge against the fence of the table saw, to a uniform width of 5". All that was done so we have beautiful smooth cedar boards that are flat and square. Forgot to take pics, will add them tomorrow.
