This is when custom really pays off.

Yes, choosing the perfect color, cabinetry face and hardware is the fun part. But the real luxury? Designing every single inch around the way a family actually lives.

For this family of five + their dog, we took a long, narrow mudroom and made it work hard—floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, a place for everyone (and everything), and storage designed specifically for the beautiful chaos of busy family life.

Because custom shouldn’t just mean prettier. It should mean smarter, more functional and completely tailored to you.

Picking paint colors before 8am.
Making 47 decisions for clients before lunch.
Construction site visits.
Contractor meetings.
Solving problems nobody saw coming.
Checking samples.
Changing plans.
Making more decisions.
And somehow making it all look effortless in the end.

The custom cabinetry has arrived. And, as expected, it’s beautiful. Also, as expected, nothing went according to plan.

After a decade of dreaming and months of designing, templating, selecting stone and finalizing every very carefully considered detail… installation week delivered the full custom experience. 😂

Crooked stone. Chipped marble. A cabinet door casualty. Oversized lighting cutouts. Bathroom vanities that couldn’t be templated because the sinks weren’t ready. A 13-hour install day that still left us unfinished.

Some things were repaired. Some require more money. And some now require my most advanced design skill: learning to live with imperfection.

Which, for a slightly obsessive designer, may be the most custom feature of all.

But the good news? It’s stunning. And yes—despite everything—I’d do custom again.

Just perhaps with a little more ch*****ne and a slightly lower tolerance for perfection. 🥂 EGB Interiors
