Two things shaped this River North loft from the start: function and color.

A home with this much drama still has to live beautifully, so we focused just as closely on flow, storage, and everyday comfort as we did on making the most of its soaring scale and architectural character.

Color became the thread that pulled it all together—warm, layered, and considered, without feeling tied to a particular moment.

Nearly two years in the making, this River North loft renovation began with spectacular bones, and a series of unusual challenges.

A previous renovation had divided the lower level with an awkward mezzanine, compressing a dramatic 15-foot volume into two underwhelming spaces. The connecting stair was steep and uninviting, and the home needed an entirely new sense of flow, finish, and warmth.

Our client loved the openness and industrial character of the space, but wanted it to feel like a true home: layered, comfortable, and full of personality. Not a sleek bachelor pad.

We’re so excited to share how we reimagined it.

Quality materials simply feel different in your hand, and solid brass is one of them.

With its substantial construction and a finish range we return to again and again, Newport Brass has long been a favorite. For the studio, we chose English Bronze: richer and warmer than our go-to polished nickel, and the perfect foil for chartreuse cabinetry and dramatic green marble.

We selected the East Linear for its clean silhouette and deck-mounted handle. Streamlined, modern, and very AKI.
