Tobacciana refers to the collection and study of to***co-related items, encompassing everything from pipes and tins to advertising materials and decorative pieces. It offers insights into the history of to***co use, its cultural impact, and the evolution of marketing and design.

To***co played a very important part in early American history. To***co was smoked or chewed by the Native Americans long before European settlement.

To***co production is almost as old as settlement in what is now the U.S. John Rolfe, who married Pocahontas, raised the first crop of to***co in Jamestown in 1612.

To***co also lead to the importation of slaves.

In 1619 was the first importation of women for wives. The men had to pay for their women with 120 pounds of to***co.

By the mid-1600s, large amounts of to***co were being exported to Europe and plantations proliferated in the Colonies.

The first American to***co factories started in Virginia in 1730.

To***co grower debts to British mercantile houses and to***co taxes were some of the grievances that lead to the American Revolutionary War.

To***co was used to partially finance the war for the Americans. Benjamin Franklin obtained a loan from France secured by 5 million pounds of to***co. George Washington in appealing for aid said “If you can’t send money, send to***co”.

Ci**rs became popular in the 1820s

The first friction match was invented in England in 1827 by Chemist John Walker. They were known as Lucifers before the name was changed to matches. This explains the Devil head match safe.

The first paper rolled ci******es were invented in Turkey in 1832.

In 1968, self-taught French Impressionist Lee Godie appeared at the Art Institute of Chicago. She sold canvases reminiscent of Cezanne, capturing Chicago's essence with iconic landmarks and symbolic natural elements. Following a prolific career with thousands of paintings, Godie gained widespread recognition through exhibitions and museum shows, profoundly impacting Chicago's art world. Her distinctive style, initially childlike, conveyed intense emotions and authenticity. Today, her work is featured in the American Folk Art Museum's permanent collection in New York, the Smithsonian, the Philadelphia Art Museum and others.

“I always try to paint beauty,” she wrote in her journals, “but some people say my paintings aren’t beautiful. Well, I have beauty in mind, but it isn’t always easy to make paintings beautiful.”

Emma from .the.manor again! When I was eating a little breakfast orange this morning it occurred to me that I should tell you an aspect of how I *think* when I am curating the elements of what we make.

I get a lot of inspiration from things that are ubiquitous or ordinary. A fruit in the morning. A plastic chair. A glass block window. When I engage with the ordinary, I open myself to romance, always. I approach romance with object and substance the same way I would with people, mainly by questions. I do not ask of things “is this beautiful?” I ask “HOW is this beautiful, in what ways am I attracted to it, how am I connected to it and how is it connected to me?”

Oranges are inherently romantic, erotic even, in their weight, shape, touch-ability, their natural inclination to be something that is shared. I can push myself further by changing how I eat it. Have you ever put an orange in the fridge about a half hour before taking a shower, and then bringing it with you and eating the cold orange in a steamy hot shower? You should. You can rip into it, you can ignore the segments and let it explode in your hands and drip down your wrists, you can let the smell whirl around you and you can let the peel drop to the floor, the heat expressing the oils until you and the orange are layered— you are inside and outside of it. Romance is easy with an orange.

The ordinary is romantic once you expand your language and strategies for love. I’m pulled toward things like the Herman Miller Eames chairs that so many of us grew up sitting on in elementary school, or the monobloc chairs that leave deep grooves in our bare thighs in summertime. The romance for me lies in its ubiquity, probably because every single object we touch contains a human element, but the human element is so humble that it has allowed itself to shrink over time for the sake of utility. How beautiful.

Hello! Emma here, I’ve been tasked to share with you all some behind-the-scenes footage from our research for events. It’s fortunate, thematically, because with this one the process is actually the whole point. I figured I’d start by showing you bits of books I’ve been reading, some shapes and textures that have been appealing. More to come!

These Primitive Milking Stools are the perfect decorative accent. They can be used as a farmhouse-style side table, stool, bathtub side table, or even as a plant stand. Their rustic nature adds charm to any space.

Each one is unique in design, and they instantly add a little soul – a hint of quirk, if you will – into every space they touch.

Huge thank you to for the perfect setting to photograph these treasures.

Our Milwaukee store, all ready for Conventioneers!
$50 Gift Cards just $35 because Republican Racism.

Through the end of the day Sunday, July 14, $50 Penzeys Gift Cards for just $35, mainly just so you can support us. These are forever gift cards with no fees or expiration dates.

Of all the offers we do, this is the one that gets today’s Republicans most upset. In the long run this really is your chance to get a better deal on the next spices you purchase or to be able to gift someone in your life the choice of even more tasty spices and seasonings.

But short run, in this moment you really are just giving us money because we are being honest about the threat the Republican party has become, and that doesn’t sit well with them.

I’ve read through thousands of angry Republican comments from the previous times we’ve made our gift card offers. I think what upsets them most is that this offer is the writing on the wall. That people will monetarily support the opposite of what they are doing is the inevitable future their ideas face.

It’s like they know their demographic of anger towards those not like them has already passed. If the flowers at the feet of statues of confederate generals are still to be tended by the children of a post-white majority America, they know they need to use this last chance at power and control they have to forever rewrite reality.

In the time they have left they are desperate to build a future where racism isn’t racism. Where hate isn’t hate if it’s directed at women. Where cruelty isn’t cruelty if it’s directed at the LGBTQ+ community. To get there they have to do a whole lot of gaslighting. Us being us outshines their gaslight.

And we are committed to using your support to amplify our voice. There was a time eight years ago when a post about the racism of electing a “textbook” racist president could reach five million people without a penny spent. Those days are passed. It takes money to reach people. With your support we will spend that money.

With the Republican convention coming to our hometown of Milwaukee and our store at downtown Milwaukee’s main intersection of Water St. and Wisconsin Ave. we are committed to, every day of the convention, posting a Postcard from Milwaukee to counter the damage their anger does with the healing, and kindness, and caring for all that is at the heart of cooking.

Our plan is, for each gift card sold this weekend, we will commit $10 to promoting our Postcards from Milwaukee posts. So you supporting us directly supports the words this time needs reaching more people.

You can order our $50 Gift Cards for $35 here: https://www.penzeys.com/online-catalog/special-offer-penzeys-gift-card/c-24/p-3129/pd-s

And wait, there’s more. If you buy three $50 gift cards we will throw in a free $18.95 Remember January 6 gift box.

If you're actually gonna watch the convention you will need some tasty popcorn, so our regularly $24.95 Popcorn gift boxes are just $10 each. https://www.penzeys.com/online-catalog/it%27s-popcorn-time-gift-box/c-24/p-3053/pd-gb

Plus, with any purchase a free $2.49 50th Anniversary edition Twilight’s Last Gleaming? Penzeys Revolution seasoning. So awesome for cauliflower, chicken, hummus, burgers, tofu, pretty much anything. Please share your Revolution favorites and tips in the comments.

And yes, Welcome Future Fake Electors : )
There are Republican voters who are decent people but simply out of touch with what the party has become. Those who have risen to the rank of delegate in the party aren’t those voters.

The delegates know they are here to take women’s rights, deny Black history, be cruel to transgender kids, and free the fossil fuel industry from any regulation that would prevent them from ending our environment.

Plus, they all know that January 6 was real and it was their party’s leaders who led it and they are just fine with that. These people would end our democracy given the chance. We can’t give them that chance.

Support us and we will do our best to make you proud.
