Last month we stumbled into a surreal Weird AL situation. Our pal was visiting from Paris, and we were showing her our haunts around Wisconsin. We were taking a hike back to a spot where there’s a cute little waterfall. When we got back there, the place was crawling with Amish, actually. There were hundreds. Not only were they in the canyon, but up on the bluffs above us. They made it known that we were not intruding, and asked us if we wanted to pass through. Our Parisian friend has never seen an Amish person. No Amish exist in France. We tried to be subtle with the picture taking, which made it difficult to capture the surreality of it all. For those wondering, we were near Devil’s Lake/Baraboo Area.

I know I know, you’re thinking ‘yeah right, how did he get those?’….
Well, my great aunt’s nieghbor’s cousin’s grandmother’s uncle knew Paul’s podiatrist. One time Paul made an appointment to have his (ahem) bunion checked out, and he had his toes clipped while he was there.
So, yeah, then I got em. Pretty simple really.

All families have stories, this was one of ours.

UPDATE: My sister just told me it was a butterfly table. It was a drop leaf table in the shape of a butterfly, where the wings were the leaves that could be up or down depending on the situation. My mom painted it like a monarch butterfly.

Bloodletting or Bleeding bowls were used from the medieval era into the 19th century. These two are probably 18th or 19th century. They were used to collect blood during bloodletting, which was believed to be a cure for various aliments by balancing the four humors.
