Ever had a vision for your space that didn’t quite make it to the finish line?

I was all set to paint the Chicago primary bedroom a rich, moody brown—something I’d been dreaming of for ages. But when my partner was really not feeling it, I had to hit pause. After some wine-fueled Pinterest scrolling and a little heartbreak, I landed on a new plan—and a new paint color.

Gray isn’t usually my first choice, but I found one that really works—a Sherwin-Williams match for Farrow & Ball’s Down Pipe. I’ve had my eye on this shade for a while, and I’m excited to finally bring it into the space. It’s not what I originally planned, but it’s the perfect middle ground—a little moody, a little modern, and totally us. Proof that a little compromise can still lead to a room you love.

Taking a trip down memory lane to share one of my favorite projects—my Sheboygan kitchen makeover!

This was one of the first big transformations I tackled in the house, and even though it’s not new, it still makes me smile every time I walk in.

Some highlights:
-Soft green cabinets that get compliments all the time
-Subway tile + exposed brick = a perfect pairing
-A fully reworked layout that actually functions
-Grandpa’s hands-on help with the gas line, cabinets, and shelving (and zero tolerance for crooked anything)

I still have a few finishing touches on the list—like adding a hood—but for now, I’m so proud of how far it’s come.

One less cottage on the block.
While walking through the neighborhood, I spotted a sticker on the construction fence where a house once stood. It read: “Stop Destroying Chicago.” And it stopped me—Chicago’s classic worker’s cottages are disappearing more quickly than we think.

These humble homes helped shape our neighborhoods. They tell stories of the city’s working class and add charm and scale to the blocks we love. But today, many are being torn down to make room for new construction.

As someone restoring a Victorian in Sheboygan, this loss feels personal. That’s why I wrote a post about what these cottages are, why they matter, and a few examples of homes that were beautifully saved instead of demolished.

Helping my mom design this Airbnb was such a fun and personal project.
Janelle’s Dockside Condo in Sheboygan, WI brings together light, modern finishes with playful patterns—like wave wallpaper in the living room, bold blue stripes in the guest bedroom, and a fun fish print in the primary.

Clean, cozy, and right on the riverfront—this one was all about creating a calm escape with character.

Sometimes all it takes is one bold choice to light up a whole room—literally.

In my Sheboygan dining room, I went all in on statement lighting. The fixture I chose adds just the right amount of drama, works beautifully with the home’s original Victorian charm, and can be bent and shaped depending on my mood (or apparently, my guests’ moods too 😅).

Statement lighting is one of 2025’s biggest design trends—and for good reason. It’s functional, sculptural, and instantly elevates a space.

Sophie’s half bath got a bold little glow-up! She loves florals, so we let a Rifle Paper Co.-inspired wallpaper set the tone for this colorful, personality-filled refresh. With a few simple upgrades—like painting the trim, swapping fixtures, and leaning into texture—we gave the space a whole new vibe without a full renovation.

Sometimes a tiny room just needs a big idea.

Ever fall so hard for a pattern that you want it in every room?

That’s exactly what happened with this dreamy bird print wallpaper I used in the sunroom/entry—and then again on the cushions in the living room right next door. It’s all part of a little design trick called pattern drenching, and it made such a cozy, cohesive difference.

GUEST ROOM BEFORE & AFTER
This little yellow box of a room just wasn't it—so I gave the guest bedroom a major glow-up with one of my favorite moody paint shades: Salamander by Benjamin Moore.
Paired it with a rattan bed frame, crisp black-and-white bedding, and a touch of yellow for contrast. It's mid-century modern, cozy, and ready for guests!
