Kline Interiors Interior Design Studio. haywoodmade interiors is a full-service design studio located in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Our mission is to provide thoughtful design and create meaningful spaces. We believe that life informs design and form follows function. haywoodmade is led by Kelsey Haywood, a start-up business maven turned entrepreneur, who values beautiful relationships as much as beautiful design. The haywoodmade aesthetic draws inspiration from elements found in nature. We curate a mix of color, materials and layers to achieve spaces that shine. Kelsey grew up in a small town in Indiana and comes from a family of builders and makers. That background instilled a deep work ethic and trained vision at the core of her being. She now lives in a 1920s bungalow with her husband and three children. At haywoodmade, we treat our clients like a guest in our home; come on in and together we will create new possibilities for your space.

Nine years in, my definition of success has changed. I’m opening a new studio, I’ve closed a shop, renamed the business, and reconsidered how I want to lead it. I’ve learned to ask for help, keep investing in relationships, and make room for the ways life changes. Some decisions took longer than they should have, but each one taught me something I carry forward.

Rooms Worth Thinking About: The Mudroom. Your daily routine deserves a well-designed space even when it’s a catch-all, drop zone.

At Ephraim, open cubbies keep bags and coats within reach. A built-in bench offers a seat to put shoes on and off and upper cabinets with grilles provide extra concealed storage. A deep navy stained oak on the cabinets, warm brass hardware, and a vintage rug give this hardworking room a personality of its own.

How do you give a kid’s room a fresh perspective? Build off of what is working. In this Pierce kids’ room, we kept the existing desk and display shelves then introduced a saturated blue wall color with a cute (but not cutesy) patterned roman shade. We never want a kids room to feel like it has a timestamp. It should be a space that grows right alongside them.
