This series is all about zooming into the details. No matter the angle or the distance, our design for 15 E Oak’s multi-tenant lobby and its signature feature wall, has no bad angles. // 📸: Kendall McCaugherty

In keeping with our recent material based themes, our prompt for our monthly photography competition this month was STEEL. Among the many sturdy submissions, we ended up with a tie. The first is an upward view of Seattle Public Library by Rem Koolhaas, giving us an interesting framing and an elegant combination of materials. The second is a moody snap of The Cloud, designed by Studio Fuksas in Rome. Providing a more curvilinear experience than its co-winner, this shot showcases the more playful side of steel. This competition continues to expand our world, whether it’s introducing us to interesting works of architecture and art or simply wowing us with stunning vistas. // 📸: Alex and Donovan S

Team is back! Having crossed $100k in total fundraising last year, our amazing group of architects and designers have put together the largest team yet in hopes of another successful Women Build season. The Village of Northfield celebrated 100 years since its incorporation this year by looking to the future. Their Vision Plan 2040 set guidelines for making the most of their enviable assets and character. OKW anticipates being part of that evolution with three projects in the works in Northfield. Pictured here is Avere, a thoughtful housing development that capitalizes on growing interest in transitional rental living in the North Shore. It aligns with the Village’s plan by creating a desirable development with a pedestrian-friendly layout that promotes walkability and vitality. //

Late last year we wrapped up construction on Galewood Residences, a housing development on Chicago’s West Side made up of 125 apartments and 25 townhomes. This type of development is in short supply not just in Chicago but in this specific neighborhood. With impressive leasing numbers and wonderful feedback from residents, it has been a success across many fronts. //

Last week we hosted a field trip of the in-progress mixed-use development, One Winnetka. With help from our construction partners at Walsh, our project team gave a handful of fellow OKWers a taste of what the transformational project feels like with walls up. When finished, One Winnetka will add 59 residences to a prime lot while paying homage to the Village’s iconic downtown with its contemporary Tudor look. // 🏗️: The Walsh Group

Our material-themed photo competitions continue with BRICK. We all love masonry — the charm, the structural integrity, the detailing — and our staff delivered with beautiful shots of vaulted ceilings, intricate facades, and creative applications. The winner was Rachel’s snap of an adaptive reuse project at Stockholm Royal Seaport. It is a collection of beautiful brick buildings standing next to modern architecture as part of a massive new neighborhood. Even among tough competition, the office crowned it with the most votes. Stay tuned for our STEEL-est images next month! // 📸:

Donovan first interned for us in 2019 before starting her undergraduate studies at Iowa State University. Since then, she interned with us two more times, graduated, became a professional, and has now joined us as an associate! Although she has a great past with us, we’re more excited about the future — please join us in welcoming Donovan (back) to OKW! // 📸: Ben Lipowitz

Our renovation of Johnson College Prep in Englewood is a great example of how architecture can make a big impact with very little space. Our team created a three-story entry and steel canopy to replace a beige, uninspiring front door (swipe). The result is a combination of front porch and bright beacon, welcoming students and staff to their school every day and inspiring true pride of place. // Noble Schools 📸: Nick Ulivieri
