I am Founder & Creative Placemaker of The GREYSTONE Collective (Bronzeville) and THE cre.æ.tive ROOM (Greater Grand Crossing), committed to leveraging my built environments as spatial mediums to provide platforms for Black Creative Practitioners to engage and inspire community fostering, collective understanding, exploration, and action through Art & Design, elevating our spirits and igniting our imaginations to DREAM.

Architecture creates an indelible mark on the landscape; buildings speak to the culture of the people. We are tied together by the stories of our lives and the places we've experienced; marking indelible moments in time. Indelible ORIGINS celebrates the odyssey of Place + People preserved in the built environment of an early 19th-century GREYSTONE as a cultural laboratory in Chicago’s Landmark Black Metropolis – Bronzeville District.

THE Artisanal Roomscape LABORATORY, solo exhibition showcased the making of The GREYSTONE Home + Studio. The GREYSTONE Residence represents a commitment to preserving the past and spirit of places we live, embodying a vision to turn an old home into a work of art, a creative environment for living. An interior architectural LABORATORY— a conceptual layering of eclectic material details in multiple rooms, which when examined carefully, differ from each other yet seem to harmonize. The resulting interior landscapes transform rooms into an evocative collection of artistically handcrafted interior architectural – “ROOMSCAPES.”

Indelible ORIGINS | Place + People 2024 four-part public engagement series celebrated the identity and creative narratives of our Collective Artists + Makers and Guest Collaborators. With our combined histories we endeavor to have a cultural impact on Chicago’s Southside; today and tomorrow.

I envisioned The GREYSTONE Project https://www.thegreystoneproject.com/ to establish The GREYSTONE Residence, Artist Apartments & Studios as communal “space and place” for people. The GREYSTONE Residence is my Home + Studio, an art + design laboratory for collective making and public engagement.

Our Indelible ORIGINS | Place + People 2024 four-part public engagement series concludes with THE Artisanal Roomscape LABORATORY, Closing Reception today November 2 | 3-6pm. Explore a curated design archive of The GREYSTONE Residence and experience an interior tour of the Artisanal Roomscapes. Also featuring Art + Design showcase installations of Indelible ORIGINS Visiting-Guest Artist | Shonna Pryor (Fashion & Interior Design) and Guest-Residency Artist | Schetauna Powell (Designed Objects).

The GREYSTONE Residence is a testament to spatial artistic expression. The Design Archive exhibits early conceptual sketches, scaled computer drawings, color renderings, full-scale detail mock-ups, material collage palettes, and photographs, unfolding the story of each “roomscape.” Rich artistic detail is demonstrated through extraordinary color palettes, painted effects, material surface embellishments, textile applications, curated vintage objects and fixtures, sculptural placement of built-in architectural elements and free-standing furniture. All are organized to create a dramatic dimensional collection of theatrical “Roomscapes.”

Last night was enchanting at The GREYSTONE Residence! The candle light interiors captivated guests. Candlelights rendered every object, material surface, painting, sculpture, piece of furniture aglow in the process. It was truly a beautiful hour of spatial enchantment! The atmospheric tour concluded ashine with the blaze of nighttime lights illuminating the interior architectural details.

The GREYSTONE Residence is a compilation of artistically handcrafted environments – bringing a spirit to each room to create spatial poetics works of art – A Handmade HOME. CL creates spatial solutions for rooms beginning with the four walls. The magic of a place develops in that very cavity. Unlike the façade of the house and unlike a painting or sculpture, the view of a room lies precisely in its hollow form, at the center of its four walls. In the Roomscapes, the walls surround and envelop a person; Light – the light of morning, of afternoon, and of evening, the artificial lights of night – transforms everything. In the morning the Roomscapes are ignited by the sun, with strong shadows; in the afternoon it is softened; at dawn, it is cold; toward evening, gilded; ashine with the blaze of nighttime lights; and candle light, sparkling enchantment. Every object, material surface, painting, sculpture, piece of furniture is involved in the process and every Roomscape has its most beautiful hour.
