To much of the World, August 24th is just another day, but to me, I woke up knowing and feeling the absence of my Dad, 10 years ago today.
I have found that the day you lose your Father, you become someone new, not because you want to because you have to, the person that you have always counted on, always shared everything with, is not there, You realize that regardless of age, you will always be his Child and that part of you that lived in that relationship, is no longer there.
I now find myself, during my dream world, still looking for him, still missing him, still wishing we had one more conversation. One more hug one more day just one more time.
Grief is a very living and powerful thing, it will visit you randomly, you cannot schedule it, or plan for it, so when it shows up, however it shows up, just know it is there to heal you.
I have learned that my grief will always center me, in my thoughts , my choices and the way I view the world, and the people around me.
Our Family has put a priority on remembering to Celebrate a fantastic life, that was well lived. We just had our Fathers Day Shoot, where we all came together with Dad’s Old guns and shot together like we did when we were Children. Every year we meet at Dad’s hunting club, on Sept 1st, (which Dad always said should be a National Holiday), the opening of hunting season, we share the Day, the Memories, and Each other.
There are so many things I wish I could share and show him in my Life, not because I need approval, nor do I desire Praise, but because he has helped to build the person that stands in my shoes, I wish he could see how much of him, lives inside of me.
We all want more time with loved ones, but We are also so Blessed and Grateful for the time that we did Share,
and the legacy of Family, our Parents instilled, Still lives within us, We are so Thankful for that as Well.
I know the world is broken and hard to deal with these days, and there’s never enough time, but don’t let a moment slip by where you have the opportunity to do something, or say something loving and encouraging to those around You.
