I really do love our home—what it’s becoming, what it’s holding. There’s something sacred in the slow, quiet art of making home… watching these four walls shift and stretch to meet us where we are.

They hold our rest. They make room for others to exhale.

And when we fill this space with friends, with kindred creative souls—it softens everything. It makes the air warmer somehow.

These small moments, these gentle vignettes… I find myself needing to pause, to honor them. Especially in the thick of renovation, they remind me of why we’re doing it in the first place.

Spring has been slow to arrive this year.
But rest is good.
And blooming—real blooming—takes strength.

This July will mark five years.
And finally, the exhales in this space feel like home, not just another project.

There were moments we truly wondered if we were out of our minds to begin this journey.
But here we are—grateful beyond words to have made it this far.
This has been, by far, the biggest renovation we’ve ever taken on.
We’ve learned so much.

I hope our kids remember this.
I hope they carry with them the quiet lesson—that so much is possible with sweat, perseverance, and a few well-earned expletives.
And maybe even more than that, I hope they remember the process.

It feels good to settle.
This will be the longest stretch we’ve lived in one place since we got married.
A steady home for our babies to bloom.
A home built with strength, grit, and an ocean of patience.

A space that finally feels like ours.
A space that feels like Spring is near.

Five years in and this room finally feels like home. A breath of fresh air. An exhale.

I am clearly the worst and documenting the process and sharing the journey, but I love that I can look back in this tiny space and see our progress.

We’ve done 98% of the work completely ourselves (big love to the friends and family who have also contributed) and this year are finally stepping into some much larger scale projects. Trepidations activated.

What I’ve learned is that creating and curating and revisiting details is simply part of my refinement and creation process. I always knew how I wanted this room to feel - but never quite fully locked the vision for what it would look like.

I gave myself time, and space, and freedom to dream. To respond to what not only brought us that comfortable feeling of home and haven, but encouraged us and others to connect for longer and more deeply.

I’ve sat in one of those chairs by the fireplace every morning since we’ve placed them and just giggle in delight that I get to live here. That His goodness has opened doors for us to make this renovation possible regardless of the timeline.

I’ve learned to sit with my decisions, to consider them in the fullness of how they will be experienced and it is both refreshing and rewarding to step into a level of creative maturity I’ve never experienced before.

It was such a great treat working on this story for artist Rebecca Weller - you might recognize her from the Magnolia Workshops.

So much has changed in two years! We’re in the home stretch of wrapping up this room. From where it was our first Christmas here, to now - doesn’t seem like much at times, but looking back to what we started with, and where we are now - we have put in the work.

✔️ Recessed lights

It’s been a real labor of love but we are so grateful for the space this place holds for our community, for us, and for those that we’ve yet to meet.

BEFORE 👉🏽 AFTER⁣

Holy moly guys. We were loved so hard this weekend. Our Mello family showed up and spent all day Saturday helping us tackle the front yard and all it’s unkept glory. ⁣

I had been itching to get the plot at the end of our driveway cleaned up and in the least, presentable. Thanks to Sam and his brother, not only is it presentable it’s 99% complete and looks amazing!⁣

The rest of the fam cleaned up our hedges, pulled weeds, ripped out dead bushes, and basically knocked out an entire wishful thinking to-do list of cleaning up the front yard. ⁣

😭😭😭. We are so grateful.

You will not find a ton of color overall in our home, but the kids’ rooms are a world all their own. ⁣

T found this rug (swipe👉🏽) late last year before we moved and he begged to bring it home. It was incredibly soft and he really dug the design. ⁣

So; even before we moved we started to build his room design around it. ⁣

Sometimes you just need that one piece of inspiration. ⁣

Will probably add a few dashes if yellow on this wall too; but for now, kid room 1 of 2 is complete!

Excited to have one room, albeit the tiniest room, completely finished from top to bottom. ⁣

Space for our friends to leave their shoes, grab some slippers, and make themselves at home. ⁣

This cedar chip lined coat closet is one of two front hall closets. Originally designed to house the first owners’ winter wardrobe; we thought it a better use of space for shoes, coats, and bags for those coming and going. ⁣

We doubled the hanging space, added simple hooks, and put in a shoe organizer that also boasts baskets of individually wrapped slippers and socks for those who prefer to not go barefoot. ⁣

It’s very likely we will end up adding a shelf that wraps around the top just to make it feel a bit more finished, but for now, happy dancing to see the progress.

Here she is. Custom built by the Hudepohl family, starting in 1991 and finishing in 1993. ⁣

We are the third owners, and the sellers were kind enough to leave us the original blue prints, as well as letters and photos from the original owner highlighting the heart and soul that went into the design. ⁣

One of the things we loved so much about the space was how easy and comfortable it would be to have community over. ⁣

We are firm believers in creating homy and comfortable spaces for relationships to grow. Without community, we would be completely different people. While everyone is called to different mission fields; our mission field is the home. A space where we can welcome in the weary and the wonderful, and celebrate together. ⁣

We look forward to filling this space with stories, laughter, relationships, and all the memories to come.

Saturday has been labeled Demo Day for the last month and Sam (and our son) were definitely looking forward to getting their Chip Gaines on. ⁣

This corner housed a dry bar and a typical 90s style pass through over the sink. Our original hope was to take out this wall fully and make it an island; but moving the required plumbing and vent work isn’t worth the design. Thankfully, we had a second design in mind that will work perfectly. ⁣

Swipe to see the before and the post demo after. @ Northern, Kentucky

Buying a paint sprayer was the best investment ever. Every single surface of this house will be repainted or replaced. ⁣

Plus, since we’re redoing the floors, I don’t have to be super on top of spills or overspray.⁣

Hoping to get the majority of the downstairs painted this week...probably about 1/3 of the way there. Then it’s go time on finishing the floors. ⁣

Our goal is to get the major parts of the main floor complete by Thanksgiving at the latest, but we shall see.

Thanks to the amazing and lovely of .home for always inspiring me to better utilize my iPad more. Was able to start the mockup of our living room design and am preeeeeetty excited about the projected outcome.⁣

The fireplace is getting a complete makeover, along with the wall it’s attached too. I think we’ve landed on the final design for the actual hearth and surround...will share some of the inspo in stories. ⁣

The walls originally had massive built ins which we’ve completely removed and the space feels so much more open. ⁣

Sam has been busy hanging dry wall, re-wiring, and now we’re ready to start framing out the new fireplace surround. Eeeeeeeee!
