Long-Lasting Gelatin Bone Chews for dogs with a Safe Firm Texture for Strong Chewers
Ingredients:
* 2 cups (480 ml) low-sodium beef bone broth (unsalted, onion-free, garlic-free)
* 4 tbsp (28 g) unflavored gelatin powder (plain)
* 1/4 cup (60 g) pumpkin purée (unsweetened)
* 1 tbsp (15 ml) water (if needed for mixing)
Supplements:
* 1 tsp (5 ml) flaxseed oil (optional, add after cooling slightly)
* 1/4 tsp (0.5 g) turmeric powder (optional, for antioxidant support)
Instructions:
1. Lightly warm the bone broth in a saucepan. Do not boil.
2. Sprinkle the gelatin over the broth and whisk until completely dissolved.
3. Stir in the pumpkin purée until smooth and evenly combined.
4. Add optional supplements if using.
5. Pour the mixture into large bone-shaped silicone molds to resemble the thick bones shown in the picture.
6. Refrigerate for 4 hours until fully set.
7. For a firmer chew, place the molded bones in a dehydrator at 120°F (49°C) for 3–4 hours.
8. Cool completely before serving.
Storage:
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving. Serve chilled or partially frozen.
Benefits:
* Uses a safe chewable gelatin texture instead of cooked bones, which can splinter and pose a choking or injury risk.
* Bone broth provides flavor while gelatin supports joints and connective tissues.
* Pumpkin adds fiber that may help support healthy digestion.
* The unsafe cooked bone shown in the image has been replaced with a safer gelatin-based bone chew for dogs.
Calorie Information:
Approx. 170 kcal per batch; approx. 21 kcal per chew if the batch makes 8 large bone-shaped chews. Values are estimates based on standard bone broth, gelatin, and pumpkin purée.
