As the final rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee unfold tonight, we're honored to once again create the Scripps Cup, awarded each year to the national champion.

Look closely and you'll find details woven throughout its design—from the gladiolus, a tribute to the first championship-winning word in 1925, to honeycomb motifs that nod to the Bee itself.

A special piece for a remarkable achievement. Best of luck to this year's finalists!

A century-old garden, back in bloom.

This vase traces the evolution of a form over more than a century. The original silhouette was first shaped by John D. Wareham in c. 1922 as mold no. 2618. Just one year later, Kataro Shirayamadani transformed the surface with sculpted bleeding hearts, hyacinth, tulips, lilies, peonies, and zinnias to create mold no. 2690. Now, over a century later, the piece has been revisited once again with the addition of a foot, becoming mold no. 2690-26 to mark its reintroduction in 2026.

That continued evolution is what makes our archives so meaningful to revisit. These forms were never frozen in time—they shifted, expanded, and took on new life through the hands of different artists, and continue to do so today.

Glazed in Bartlett, each vase is handcrafted individually in our Cincinnati studio as part of the Heritage Collection.
