Should cabinets go all the way to the ceiling? In most cases, yes, and here’s why:

Extending cabinets to the ceiling maximizes your storage by using space that would otherwise go to waste. Even if the upper shelves are used for items you don’t reach for often, it’s still valuable square footage. It also gives your kitchen a cleaner, more finished look by eliminating that awkward dust-collecting gap above the cabinets. From a design perspective, it draws the eye upward and can actually make the room feel taller. Full-height cabinetry is often seen as more custom and higher-end, and it avoids the visual clutter that comes from trying to fill that space with baskets or decor.

Of course, not every ceiling height or layout requires it, but when it fits, we almost always recommend it.
