Same pattern. Completely different quilts.

One of my favorite ways to evaluate a quilt pattern is to ask whether it still looks good in entirely different fabric collections. Stellata passes that test every time.

My most favorite projects are the ones I collaborate on with my quilty bff Lisa .quilts , so when she asked me if I was interested in being a guest designer for her The Pattern Project block of the month club, I of course jumped at the chance!

The block I designed for July is something I’d worked on awhile ago for a Christmas-y quilt and set aside, so it was super fun to bring it back into my work focus and finish off the design and pattern. The design works great for Holiday projects, but I needed to see it in something springy and feminine, too!

A lot of quilters assume Stellata is harder than it actually is.

The finished quilt has a lot of visual impact, but it’s built from repeating blocks and straightforward construction. Once you settle into the rhythm, the process becomes surprisingly relaxing.

I always enjoy patterns that look impressive without requiring complicated techniques on every step, and Stellata definitely falls into that category.

Sometimes confidence comes from realizing you can do more than you thought you could.

Some quilts come together one block at a time. Stellata came together one friendship at a time.

This pattern was designed in collaboration with Lisa of Wild Plum Lane and combines two star blocks into a quilt that feels intricate, striking, and full of movement.

One of my favorite things about Stellata is that changing the fabrics completely changes the personality of the quilt. I’ve seen it made in soft florals, bold modern prints, holiday fabrics, and everything in between.
