Ecclesiastes 3: For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Montgomery County has changed and is still changing. No one knows more about that change than our local farmers, they have had to adapt and change as well. The bottom field that was once filled with smoke this time of year from the dark fired to***co barn by the creek has been replaced by a corn maze and a pumpkin patch filled with families laughing and having a great day on the farm. The commercial cow herd or small dairy has been replaced by direct to consumer fresh from the farm freezer beef. The to***co warehouse has been replaced by the local farmer’s market filled with small farmers selling their home grown produce and flowers directly to the consumer. At harvest time, farmers move their equipment down the road, navigating the traffic and trying to dodge the mailboxes from new subdivisions that at one time was farmland. When that new bottle calf is born, the farmer must deal with 30-45 minute traffic to make it to the CO-OP for milk replacer and colostrum.

Just like our local farmers, the CO-OP must adapt to change as well. There may be some fake news and social media posts speculating about our future, but we are still here. You may see us working with our neighboring CO-OP’s more often, and you may see a shift in our location, but these changes would be made so we can further serve our members and customers. At the end of the day, a cooperative isn’t a building and where it sits or a truck going down the road. It’s the members, employees and customers that make up the CO-OP. And sometimes, change is good, and we are doing our very best to make sure we are here for the long term to help our growers put food on their table and ours.

Cooperatively,

Jarod Watson
