Tired of the leftovers. You don’t want to see another piece of turkey. I understand. I am the same way about now. So what to do with all those leftovers. You can make shepherds pie oh that just covers up same thing huh. So freeze it in single portions or portions for the family and in about a month or two everyone will be like yeah turkey, dressing or what ever is left. Not a lot of freezer space freeze in bags and squeeze the air out. Then lay flat and spread everything in that bag so it’s as flat as possible it takes up less room.

While you you prepare your Thanksgiving day feast tomorrow think of the turkey left overs. If you are like our family always was we would have more turkey left than anything else. I started packing myself portions of leftovers for lunches or meals so I could have them throughout the year. You can get containers similar to the ones below at Walmart or on Amazon for not a lot of money. They are like the containers you get at restaurants when you bring food home. What I like to put in mine is turkey mashed potatoes and dressing. I also try and save some of the turkey graving in a snack size zip loc container to put on top. I freeze that flat and out it on top of my food. I also do the same with the cranberry relish. If there is a lot of space on top of my food between the food and the lid then I will put a piece of parchment paper. I may put a couple of napkins folded up in a zip loc bag or anything else to fill the space. Space is the enemy when we freeze something long term. So you may need to fix extra on some of the sides depending on what you like. I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

I have a You Tube channel. I haven’t put anything up in a while. I will be putting some new videos up soon. The channel name is Jeanettes Apartment Homesteading. As we grow we will be growing our own fruits and vegetables. We will do side hustles out of our apartments. Right now I am baking for the holidays. I am going to put baking mixes into jars to sell for Christmas. This spring I will be selling plants tomatoes, peppers, spinach, just to name a few. We will start small in numbers then each year try to grow from there. If we grow our salad green in abundance then we can sell the extra also. Just another way to be self sustaining. I am sure you have some talents you can side hustle.

What can we do to save money right now and get something put up in the freezer quickly without much effort. Last night Krogers had their pie pumpkins or sweet pumpkins on sale for $0.50 each. You would need about two cups for a pie. The best easiest way to do this is to put a slit in the side of the pumpkin for a vent hole put the pumpkin on a sheet tray. Put in the oven on 250 degrees for about 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. When you can easily stick a knife or fork through the pumpkin take them out. Once cooled cut in half scoop the seeds out. Once you get to the pumpkin scoop that out and mash it put in zip loc bags. Get as much air out of the bag as possible close the bag. With the bag closed flatten the pumpkin out and freeze it. You want to freeze flat to use less space in the freezer. Look at your recipes to dertermine if you want to put in one cup or two cups in each bag. Write on the bag what it is the date and amount. This project done. The biggest thing is how much pumpkin would you use in a year. Put that amount up.

How many items do you make with pumpkin.

On this page as well as other social media platforms we are going to raise aware of how to grow fruits and vegetables in tiny spaces. We will even grow some inside. We will become more sel sustainable by having food in our pantry not for just one month, we will have food for 6 months to a year. We will have side hustles for extra income. We may not work the side all of the time but it will be there when we need it or want to work it. The definition of homesteading becoming more self sustaining. We will also be canning and preserving the fruits and vegetables we grow.
