"Pretty, Posh & Practical Powder Room!" Our client's request is for a home that's "Pretty like a English garden" but because this is the primary lavatory on the main floor it must be most Practical not prim & precious. Wit & Whimsy must be present and is a prerequisite to add "charmant" to this intimate room and it's decor must bring a bemused smile to one's face. To accomplish that end we've begun to create an idiosyncratic assemblage of vintage and contemporary wall art and accessories which convey the sensuous blooming abundance of herbaceous garden borders set against and enveloped by the lush greens grass lawns of English parks with fair blue skies overhead.

Vintage framed floral art, Oval English tole tray with flowers, multi-color jacquard weave hand towels, olive green glass bud vase, " Wedgewood-esque" black oval wall plaque, grass cloth covered box with brass handle, matte mirror from K&K, faucet by American Standard. All paint finishes Benjamin Moore.

Retrofit for a Main Line Estate Sale Vintage Marble Top Demi Lune Cabinet Find:
Four years & 450 miles later after carting this console back home and putting it into storage we have a remodeling project for a diminutive powder room and for which we wanted to incorporate a unique sink cabinet with personality. Et Voila! As luck or serendipity would have it .... tucked away and covered up in storage we rediscovered this marble top demi lune cabinet & it was just the size needed. This powder room is situated on the ground floor of the residence with nearby access to the exterior patios & gardens, thus it already had a textured, durable slate floor ( which we retained ). We knew that floor would juxtapose and compliment the cabinet's original paint & patina which is a major aspect of the cabinet's charm...it's "Je ne sais quoi"! Many thanks to Fabrizio @ Marble & Granite Concepts who's expertise enabled us to incorporate the undermount sink into the marble and general contractor Pawel who adroitly installed & adapted the cabinet's interior for plumbing. The new cabinet hardware, ceiling fixtures & sconces are installed and only the final wall & moulding finishes plus decorative accessories remain to complete the composition.

"Pretty as a Springtime Garden in England"... except this pretty Garden is in Independence.

Fresh and Loverly this is.. not a wistful wish of Wouldn't it be.....

We employed a liberal dose of an undulating Chinoiserie pattern by Thibaut throughout the room in both wallcovering and fabrics. It's patternings, colorations and motifs of flora & fauna provide the springboard for the room's design aesthetic.
Overhead the ceiling floats as a clear cloudless Springtime sky while the sepias of the natural woven blinds represent the soil. All the Highland House & Century Furniture upholstery dons a mantle of apple blossom whites. Accent pillows and throw blankets echo those of the flowers, needles, leaves & cones which follow suit as does the decor glass, ceramics & Art. Linens, velvets, chenilles & boucles enhance the tactile senses. Antiques such as the unique pair of flat back Italian tole paint buffet lamps with twining vines of porcelain flowers provide nuance, depth and historical continuity. A pair of large French wire Crystal table lamps from Global Views & singular crystal Lillian August lamp impart a thoroughly modern twist.
