It’s with profound sadness that I reflect on the loss of my friend, Jada Calendar, who is pictured on the left in this image. She left us far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and creativity. Jada was one of those rare souls who made everything she touched brighter and every life she encountered fuller.
I’ll always remember Jada as a woman who led with compassion, lived with joy, and inspired everyone around her. One of my favorite memories of her is from November 2021 when she joined me and others to prepare wooden cutouts for the "fish and fowl" art display at Washington Park in Clifton Forge. She poured her heart into ensuring the pieces were ready for young students to paint, sharing her infectious enthusiasm and encouraging words with everyone involved. That day wasn’t just about creating art—it was about creating connections, and Jada made everyone feel that they were part of something special.
As a community leader, Jada brought energy, dedication, and warmth to everything she did. She never hesitated to step up and help, always doing so with that signature smile of hers that could lift even the heaviest of spirits. But it was her role as a friend and co-creator that I’ll cherish most. She had an incredible gift for listening without judgment, offering thoughtful advice, and reminding everyone of their worth when they needed it most.
Jada’s impact on our projects, our community, and our lives was immeasurable. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued, and her memory will remain a guiding light for all of us who were lucky enough to know her.
Jada, thank you. Your kindness, creativity, and laughter will live on in our hearts forever.
