“The DIY client who wants to save money…”
Don’t get me wrong—I’ve worked with plenty of clients who can absolutely handle certain DIY projects when they understand the scope, risks, and order of operations. A little Remodeling 101 goes a long way.
Where things go sideways is when someone takes on a larger project without fully understanding what’s behind the walls, above the ceiling, or tied into structural, electrical, or mechanical systems. That’s when small “savings” turn into big, expensive problems.
I see it all the time—clients open a can of worms they don’t know how to close, and then discover that a contractor won’t step in to fix it because of liability issues once work has already been started incorrectly.
DIY isn’t bad.
DIY without a plan, experience, or professional guidance is where the real risk lives.
This is exactly why knowing when to DIY—and when to bring in a professional—can save time, money, and a whole lot of stress in the long run.
