Thoughtful interior design for families who love old homes

Below is little background on this bathroom project. There is also a Before picture if you swipe.

* The home is historic, built in 1895, so it was important that the design of the bathroom felt cohesive with the existing architecture of the house. We created a nook for the bath/ shower using the same trim profile as the existing window casing. We added a crown that matches the crown in the rooms on the rest of the floor. We incorporated traditional details like a honed marble floor featuring a border and tile wainscotting on all the walls.

* The lack of storage with the original layout was the homeowners’ biggest pain point. The new layout maximizes storage and hides toiletries. We did this with a recessed medicine cabinet, a vanity with drawers and a shower niche hid behind a custom shower curtain.

* The bathroom is en suite to the homeowners’ teenage daughter’s bedroom and also has a door to the main hallway. While we designed it mainly for her, we made sure she had hidden spots for all her things so the space could be welcoming to guests too.

As we prepare for a new website (launching this summer!) we’ve been going through photos of past projects. This image will always be a favorite as it perfectly captures our go-tos for creating a compelling space:

1. Custom furniture - this beautiful banquette was designed by us and expertly built by .ltd

2. Vintage furniture - we had the homeowner’s existing chairs reupholstered in a textile

This Carriage House is not yet a year old. These beams though are celebrating at least 140 years! Once the structure of a barn on the property, these time-worn beauties are now featured in the Carriage House’s lower level gym. Cheers to the next 140!

Six years ago we had the pleasure of working with the loveliest family on the design of their beloved Victorian home. An avid and talented gardener, the homeowner loved florals and embraced joyful colors. While we never professionally photographed the completed space, (life got in the way - fun fact: I’m very pregnant in that 5th slide!) I luckily took some pics along the way. Slide left to see some of my favorites.

The homeowners recently reached out because they are embarking on their next adventure - moving to the countryside. They were worried that the furniture they have come to love would not have a place in their new home. We developed furniture plans based on how they want to live in their new space and guess what? All of their favorite pieces have a spot!

We love incorporating cherished existing pieces into our clients’ furniture plans - wether they are family heirlooms or pieces we discovered for you years ago!

Hidden behind a cabinet door at our project lives a walk-in pantry. At only 14 square feet, this space is small but mighty. It provides over 40 linear feet of additional storage!

We are so excited to share the space we designed for ’s 2023 Holiday House! Our “walk in the woods” inspired bedroom vignette is on display at the Serena and Lily Chestnut Hill Design Shop through the new year. We would love to hear if you stop by!

Years ago I was admiring a painting in a client’s home. She shared that it was by a talented local artist . I have been following Jess’s work ever since.

Fast forward several years and we were designing the living space at our project. We needed a large piece of art to complete the space and I knew just the artist! We showed our clients some of Jess’s past works and her work resonated with them too. We were thrilled she was taking commissions.

We provided Jess the size of painting we would need for the wall, some swatches for context about the space’s color palette and a mention of some her past works that the homeowners particularly liked. She took it from there and wow! The piece is stunning! Thank you and thank you Greta for sharing her name with us years ago!
