Today I sourced art for new projects and thought about what art can be: interesting drapery finials, colored yarn balls in a basket, wild daisies, a wildly stitched pillow, lace-filled cake, gorgeous fabric combinations, a simple bowl of buttons, and a persistent second chance tree. I see Art in all these things.

This is the perfect weekend to tour the 35th Howard County Decorator Showhouse, Valhalla, an 1832 mansion in Marriottsville, MD near Columbia, MD. It’s open through tomorrow, October 11th.
So much creativity went into these halls filled with original art and a library designed by design students at the Community College of Baltimore County, Kim Morrison INTD Coordinator!

Our renovation is complete. A new foyer, stair system, upstairs hallway and two new closet systems have infused this colonial with natural light, art and color. It took a skilled team months to bring my design to life. I am grateful to Deborah Weir for creating gorgeous stairs, Elmer J Monsalve for extraordinary tile matching, L.J. An Interior design process is not pretty. There are hundreds of decisions. Many tradespeople and artisans are involved. Here we see Ejm Tile Mechanic LLC at work for days and days. The level of skill he has to pattern match 31 pieces of 12” x 24” tile is extraordinary!
