East Coast Calligraphy Presents

The McHugh Fountain Pen Collection

Join us on Saturday, November 13, 2021, from 12pm – 5pm

To all the fountain pen lovers …we have the pleasure of offering you a very beloved collection of fine writing instruments. The owner was an artist and writer who loved using a good pen; and loved his pen collection even more! He took great care to preserve the pens in wonderful condition; and in the boxes they were purchased. This pre-owned collection is being sold as, “new/old” inventory…most have never been used!

If you love fine writing instruments, you will love this collection! It includes names such as,

• Pelikan
• Platinum
• Conklin

We will be selling them on a first come, first serve basis -- we are not reserving any inventory. The McHugh family wants these pens in the hands of people who will appreciate and enjoy them. Don’t miss this great opportunity to own a wonderful fountain pen!

Come join us for an afternoon of stress-free artistic fun! The Philadelphia Calligrapher’s Society is hosting their annual Autumn Antics Event where the members share their skills by teaching mini workshops to anyone who wants to learn and meet new people!

Our new class schedule has posted...check it out!

Calligraphy Workshop Schedule

September 21st (11:30am – 2 pm) - Gothicized Italic Lettering – Adds some artistry to your lettering skills and learn a Gothicized Italic hand. This hand has pointed and sloped characters and adds an elegance to your letter forms that can be used in any project. Cost: $65.00

October 12 - (11:30am – 2:00 pm) - Modern Calligraphy – This is a great lettering style for beginners created with fun letters that can be used for journaling, blackboards and a variety of wonderful projects. You will learn the basic letter forms in family groups. We will also teach you how to use a dip pen, nib and ink. Workbook and materials provided. Cost: $60.00 + tax

Our Modern Calligraphy class will be offered again on the following dates:

• Friday, Sept 27 (Evening Class – 7 PM – 9 PM)
• Saturday, October 26 (11:30 AM – 2:00 PM)
• Saturday, November 16 (11:30 AM – 2:00 PM)

November 2 – (11:30am -2:00pm) - Book Making: Learn to create Handmade Books
Learn the creative techniques of making handmade books with an emphasis on bookbinding, decorative stitching and colorful pages. Materials are provided for the workshop $55.00 + tax.

Watercolor Wednesdays with Debbie

Our in-house illustrator will teach you how to paint using watercolor. You will learn basic techniques and how to use color to transform a blank page into a beautiful work of art. Supplies provided for instruction Cost: $40.00.

I am excited to say we are presenting our first Medieval Calligraphy class and we are letting you know that it has posted to our website today. There will be 12 hours of instruction and hands-on activities over a 3-day period (4hr/day) that will lead to a final project using all the skills learned in the class. I have provided you with the details of the class below; participants can register for the workshop under CLASSES at www.eccsupply.com. If you like history and calligraphy, you will love this class…we plan to have a lot of fun!

August 10, 11 & 24 - (11:00 am - 3:00 pm) – The Life of a Medieval Scribe (Series)** – Would you like to join us on a historical journey to the twelfth century? We are going to step back in time during the Carolingian Renaissance when Monarchs and Medieval Scriptoriums were on the forefront of improvements for literacy and lettering. Our students will become apprentice scribes and our shop will transform into a monastery (library) of the twelfth century. Not only will you learn historical calligraphic techniques of the period; you will also learn the history behind the craftsmanship. Our scribes (students) will roll-up their sleeves and get passionate about medieval calligraphy and illumination, activities include:

• You will make watercolor by using pure ground pigments for use during the class;
• Work with iron gall ink using Quills (ink recipe and quill cutting discussions included);
• Learn a Carolingian Hand from the Court of Charlemagne (Charles the Great);
• Working with Vellum (vegan alternative available);
• Gold Leafing & White Vine work for Illumination (using 23K Gold Leaf).

This class will allow students to build on their skills and create a medieval Manuscript page as their final project. Adults only – this class is not suitable for children. (materials provided). **Taught by Professional Calligrapher and Author Maureen Peters (trained in Sacred & Medieval Arts).
