For those of you who are not in Colorado, we have a Manitou Incline that is a hike up the side of a mountain via 2,768 stairs made of railroad ties. It is an "Extremely Diffult" level. The way down can either be by those same steps or a hike down, which is a little over 3 miles.
Why do I tell you this? Well, when I was young, I always said I would NEVER do the incline. Now, ever since I got my mind right through my journey of recovery, I have decided it is time to get my body right and, for the last year or so, I have been busting my ass to do just that.
This Saturday is my 3 year sober anniversary. So, I have decided to celebrate that mile stone by doing something I never would've imagined I would ever do: climb the Manitou Incline! My actual sober anniversary was all booked up for the incline, but I was able to do it this morning.
In as little as three years ago, I never would've imagined I would be doing this today. It truly is amazing what we can accomplish with sobriety, and you all know know I absolutely love being proof of what can be accomplished when sober.
There are so many others out there who are still struggling. Luckily, I have had the privilege of having amazing parents and brothers who have supported me and have done everything they can to get me better. I would not be alive today if it wasn't for them. Unfortunately, not everyone has that privilege. That is why I also love being a voice to those who still suffer in silence, and I always reiterate that my inbox is always open if anyone needs it.
Help is out there, but it is up to you to seek it! It is far too difficult to do it on your own.
Inspire yourself. Inspire others. And you too can climb mountains! (Metaphorically and physically).
