The Ballet Russes ( Russian) came to Paris in 1909. They created a grand sensation where the gentry had fantastic costume parties to which guests arrived brilliantly attired and covered in costly jewels by Cartier. Elsie de Wolfe, a stage actress, is considered to be America's first "decorator." She is credited with designing the interiors of the Frick Mansion in New York. A nurse in WWI, she later bought a house in Versailles, where as a devout health advocate, she lived to 90.
