Back at it. No shortcuts.

These are a few designs I’ve got traced up and ready to go. From bold statements to clean logos to fully custom concepts — this is the part of the work that keeps me pushing.

Custom area rugs aren’t just decor to me. They’re about taking an idea, dialing it in, and turning it into something solid, functional, and built to last.

Whether it’s a simple standalone piece or a full custom design, I’m excited to be back in the groove and getting these knocked out.

I’ve learned a hard lesson over the past few months that I think is important for any creative or small business owner.

Back in December, I had an opportunity to make custom rugs for someone in the music industry — someone I’ve admired for years. We agreed on a reduced price of $650 (half of my normal $1,300 rate), in exchange for payment and some promised promotion to help grow my business.

I poured my heart into those rugs, even expedited one before a local show. I delivered both, but one was taken before full payment, and I’ve only received part of what’s owed. Despite months of patience, follow-ups, and promises, the remainder still hasn’t been paid. None of the promotion we discussed ever happened.

This isn’t about burning a bridge or creating drama — it’s about respect. Artists deserve to be paid for their work, regardless of who the client is. Exposure doesn’t pay the bills.

I’m sharing this not for pity, but as a reminder to other creatives: always have written agreements and protect your time and talent. Your work has value. The rugs I created for this project are something I’m proud of — even if one of them is still sitting in my garage as a tough lesson learned.
