The Lilacwood Story
The home I grew up in in Helena, Montana and where my dear mother still resides, had an ancient - like 60 some-odd years old - lilac tree that was slowly dying in the back yard. Long story short... my mother recruited me to cut it down and take it to the landfill. So that's what I was doing when I noticed that the wood of this tree was spectacularly beautiful! I had no idea then just how drop-dead gorgeous that old wood actually was until I threw all of that cut up tree into the back of my truck and brought it to my wood shop and started to make things out of it. The images below represent most of the items I've created out of a nearly dead lilac tree from my childhood home. Enjoy!
