This whole-home new construction design project is elevated in the trees, and from the very beginning, we built the design around five guiding words: Contemporary, Natural, Organic, Relaxed, and Warm. (Swipe for a small, partial glimpse of the springboard page of every full-service design project, the Concept Design Summary, as well as one of the many planning documents involved in a bathroom design, the Tile Layout page.)

You can feel that intention in every material choice—from the sedimentary stone–inspired tile and brushed stainless fixtures to the black-framed windows that echo the home’s Shou Sugi Ban exterior. A sculptural soaking tub anchors the space with quiet simplicity, letting the views take center stage.

Every project starts with a clear concept to guide the ship home—and this one stayed true to course.

Finished, styled & professional photos coming soon, but we couldn’t wait to share this in progress peek.

Designing a kids’ bathroom in a historic home means finding the perfect balance between period-appropriate details and modern functionality—and this space does just that.

We started with 1” hex tile floors, complete with an intricate yet classic border detail, setting the tone for timeless elegance. A walnut vanity provides ample storage, including a dedicated hair tool drawer to keep the counters tidy. Above, recessed medicine cabinets offer even more storage while maintaining a clean, streamlined look.

Before, only one person could comfortably use this bathroom at a time. Now, with thoughtful planning, the room easily accommodates the family. To maximize every inch, we added a custom storage cabinet above the toilet with a ventilated chrome mesh panel that discreetly integrates the bathroom’s exhaust system.

Additional design highlights include:
• Period-appropriate chrome plumbing and hardware, honoring the home’s historic character.
• Two custom niches in the shower, designed at kid-friendly heights for easy access to toiletries during bathing or showering.
• A practical and stunning touch: we used remaining marble from the kitchen slabs for the countertop, shower niches, and window sill, tying the spaces together beautifully and ensuring nothing went to waste.
• Gorgeous and unique shower door hardware was installed horizontally on the bi-swing custom double doors to also function as hand-towel storage. They perfectly complement the unique, yet period-perfect, lighting.

A Creative Space Rooted in History

Designing this multi-function laundry & craft room in a historic home meant blending functionality and creativity while honoring the rich legacy of its past. This home was originally designed by Columbia native, Mary Louise (Hale) LaFond, a true pioneer. In 1899, a local paper described her as “the only successful female architect in the state.” Her innovative designs left a lasting mark, including the creation of the famous “Peanut Brittle” houses, named for their distinctive blocks embedded with local rock, giving the walls a unique texture reminiscent of peanut brittle. These exposed blocks inspired much of the design for this room, including the cabinetry color and slate floors.

We transformed what was once an underutilized space into a hub of productivity and creativity tailored to the homeowners’ hobbies. The husband, now has room for custom framing his own collections and artwork, while the wife, who delights in gift wrapping, enjoys a custom cabinet & desk, designed specifically for her supplies. The children’s craft supplies are organized where they now have dedicated spaces to sit and create.

Every detail was thoughtfully considered:
• A brass-framed, linen-covered bulletin board above the sink, illuminated by a picture light, showcases their children’s art projects.
• Brass and milk glass sconces provide additional task lighting, perfect for detailed art and craft projects.
• Custom cabinets also house everything including a stick vacuum, ironing board, durable faux-wicker laundry baskets, printer, mat board cutter, etc. — all within dedicated spaces to keep them neatly tucked away.

To tie it all together, we echoed the walnut and brass finishes from the kitchen & breakfast room, creating a cohesive flow throughout the home. This room isn’t just about function; it’s about creating a space where artistry, family, and tradition come together.

This adjacent breakfast room is the perfect example of how thoughtful design can transform an underutilized space into the heart of a home. Once just a landing zone for jackets and shoes, this room is now a warm, inviting place where the family can spend more time together—whether it’s enjoying meals, playing games, or tackling crafts & homework.

We carried over the same finishes from the kitchen—marble, walnut, and unlacquered brass—to create a seamless flow and understated elegance. We worked with the clients to design a custom solid walnut dining table, exceptionally executed by a local craftsman, to serve as the centerpiece, blending natural beauty with incredible craftsmanship.

To highlight the homeowners’ collection of beautiful serving pieces, ceramics etc., we designed elegant display cabinets with integrated lighting that create a stunning glow, especially in the evening. This subtle touch elevates the space, making it feel both curated and cozy.

Around the seating area, we flanked the banquette with gorgeous wall sconces, adding ambient light for family dinners, game nights, and casual gatherings. Beneath the bench, custom drawers provide clever storage for kids’ games, crafts, etc., making cleanup effortless.

This room isn’t just an extension of the kitchen—it’s a space that encourages connection, laughter, and quality time. Thoughtful design transformed it from an overlooked area into a room the whole family cherishes.

When designing for a historic home, we believe in honoring its past while ensuring it functions beautifully for today. For this project—and every project we take on—we start by setting 3–4 key words that the project must evoke when it’s finished. One of the words our thoughtful and detail-oriented clients chose was “organized”— so we promised to deliver a kitchen where everything has a place, and where impeccable style harmonizes seamlessly with everyday function.

Classic details were the heart of this design:
• Unlacquered brass hardware adds warmth and develops a patina over time, blending perfectly with the home’s historic charm.
• Marble countertops and backsplash, chosen for timeless elegance & enduring appeal, make every surface feel elevated yet welcoming.
• Period-appropriate lighting, selected for scale and authenticity, ensures the room feels cohesive with the home’s original architecture.

Every cabinet, drawer, and shelf was thoughtfully designed to not just look beautiful, but to create a seamless flow for the daily living of its inhabitants. By prioritizing organization & the routines and lifestyle of our clients, this kitchen proves you don’t have to sacrifice practicality for timeless beauty—it can be both.

It’s a space that feels like it has always belonged here, yet perfectly suits the needs of its modern-day family.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing team & exceptional craftsmanship of and the wonderful .

In one of our recently completed new build projects, is this stunning dining room — a perfect example of how to mix classic elegance with modern functionality.

We started with the walls, wrapping them in a sophisticated vinyl grasscloth for texture and durability, and paired it with one of our Farrow & Ball colors on the millwork, creating a serene and timeless backdrop.

The star of the show? A stunning high-gloss Burlwood dining table, adding warmth and a touch of modernity to the space. Above it, we selected a unique gilded iron chandelier, bringing just the right amount of sparkle and unexpected punch to anchor the room in understated elegance.

To honor our client’s love for tradition, we gave their existing Chippendale-style dining chairs a chic makeover with creamy white paint and fresh, custom-upholstered cushions for comfort and style.

Underfoot, a custom sisal indoor/outdoor rug balances elegance with practicality—perfect for a busy family, as it’s impenetrable to spills and daily wear.

This design is all about blending old and new: traditional shapes and craftsmanship meet updated finishes and modern materials. It’s a space that feels fresh, timeless, and completely livable.
