I absolutely love Century Plants (Agave Americana)and we have a ton of them! The common name refers to the idea that it takes 100 years for it to bloom, but the reality is that it will send up a twenty foot tall bloom spike in 10 to 20 years. When the Century plant is mature it can be six to ten feet around. After it blooms the plant dies but by that point it will have up to one hundred baby plants(pups) all around it ready to now be the star of the show.
Agave Americana needs full sun and well drained soil. The plants are very drought resistant. Water them and allow to dry thoroughly before watering again. They only need fertilization once during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer
