Hello, Everyone!

The move is happening quickly. I'm saddened by this, but can't wait to have it over and done with. There's nothing spiritual about moving, neither is it fun. It's a lot of work and logistics -- especially since I'm here in Missouri and my husband is there in SC. We're making it work, but it isn't easy.

Thankfully, there's a young couple from church who want to purchase our house for their growing family. She is pregnant with their first child and they already have her sister living with them. A 3 bedroom house is a necessity right now for them. And there's room to grow. This will also allow us to leave most of our furniture there for their use.

So, when I go back at the end of this month, I'll be packing out my car with stuff to bring back with me -- both quilting and personal items like clothing, etc. Unfortunately, I won't be able to bring my longarm quilting machine since my car isn't 12 feet long! But there is a local quilt shop who has a similar machine in their shop for me to rent so I can finish these quilts that I'll be returning with.

I've marked my business on Google as temporarily closed since I've received several calls to finish quilts. This will help me focus on transferring my business to Missouri once we are settled here. I won't actually be "closed", but will continually be working on the quilts that I have and will receive.

If you have been waiting for me to make a quilt for you or a loved one, don't despair! I'll still be accepting orders! This is the new process:

1. Client ships items (clothing, fabric, etc.) to me

2. Zoom (video) call or phone call is scheduled for a consultation once items are received.

3. I design the quilt and send an estimate

4. Client approves design and estimate is converted to an invoice

5. 50% deposit is made, fabric & supplies are ordered

6. Once fabric and supplies are received, quilt is made and finished

7. Quilt is shipped to the client (You will not be charged for any shipping costs.)

Hello, Everyone!

I hope you each had a wonderful week since the last email I sent. Mine has been eventful, for sure!

Dad is getting tired of not driving. His emotions are getting the best of him, so he's not been acting quite right. This is the part I will keep private with the family and just let you know that it has not been easy dealing with a man who thinks he is able to modulate a gas pedal and brake pedal with a prosthetic leg where he can't move the ankle, neither can he feel the pedals in order to tell which pedal his foot is on. I'm sure you can imagine the difficulty we've had.

That being said, my husband have made the decision to move to Missouri. We are hoping to have the move completed by Thanksgiving. A church member is wanting to buy our house, so that should make things speed up a bit -- not having to worry about putting it on the market, etc. He has also agreed to use most of the furniture we have in the house. So we won't have to pack up so much to move -- blessing beyond measure there!

I am still going to continue to create Memory Quilts and will be transferring my business from SC to MO. Legally, I have to tell SC that I'm closing and will have to start from scratch in Missouri.

That being said, I'll be taking my longarm apart when I'm there October 31 -- November 3. That's a 5-hour job!!! Unfortunately, though, it will have to wait to get put back together until my husband is able to finalize everything there in SC. I'll fly in for Thanksgiving and will travel with him pulling a U-Haul trailer behind his truck with all the rest of our belongings and my longarm. Than I'll be able to put it together in Dad's basement until we are able to find our own place.

In the meantime, there is a longarm dealer right here close to Dad's house with the same machines! She rents them out to other quilters to use. I'll be one of those other quilters! So, your quilts will still get finished. I'm already exhausted and we haven't even started yet, really. Moving is never fun!

My husband and I will be helping the church here in Springfield, Mo. We've known the pastor & his wife for several years, as we have most of them in our organization. New Testament Christian Church has been gracious to my husband and I. The leadership is the best I've seen. They love and care just like they should without any effort. That has been more appreciated than anything I can imagine.

So, for the orders I'm picking up on Monday, November 2nd, I'll bring them out here with me. Design the creations and will email to the respective client the graphic of the design, along with an estimate of cost. Once the design and estimate have been accepted, the estimate will be converted into an invoice where I'll require the 50% deposit so I can order the materials needed. Once I receive the materials, I'll get started in the order that the deposit is made. When the quilts are finished, I'll require the final payment and will ship them back to you with NO shipping charges. It's not your fault I'm having to move, so I'm not penalizing you for that move.

Thank you all for your support. Taking care of a parent is never easy. Moving is never easy either. But when those 2 are combined, it's downright difficult emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I will be coveting your prayers while we make this transition. Let it be smooth as butter, Lord!

I'm so sorry! I put the wrong dates for when I'll be back home and available for consultations! Monday, November 2nd is the correct date for when I'll be available for Memory Quilt Consultations. Apologies, apologies, apologies!

Also, since I won't be there long enough to complete Longarm Quilting Services, those are not available for now. Hopefully, I'll be able to return for the long term soon to accept these once again.

Hello, Everyone!

Last week I enjoyed the Church Conference I attended. There were more people in attendance than have been there in recent years -- over 1200!!! It was an amazing conference with the title Spirit Summit. Every speaker spoke about how to reach the summit in your spiritual life, what it takes to get there, and encouragement to keep climbing uphill until you get there.

While we (my husband and I) were there, Dad attempted to drive with his prosthetic. He scared his new girlfriend half to death since his starts and stops were so abrupt. You can imagine the lack of control he had. We're working on getting him evaluated by a physical therapy driving school to determine if he's actually ready to do it safely or if he actually needs the adaptive controls. We'll be paying out of pocket since he doesn't (apparently) want to wait any longer on the VA to approve the controls and follow their process.

Regardless of all of that -- we've also learned that Dad cannot live on his own as we previously thought. We were hoping last week would give him the boost he needs to do more things around the house. When he's upset (mad), he'll force himself to do things on his own since he (at that moment) is trying to prove he can do things on his own. However, his new girlfriend has sight issues and couldn't help him enough as he needed, apparently, because the house was a mess when my sister arrived.

With all this, I don't think I'll be coming home any time soon, unfortunately. So this is my plan: I'll return home October 31 - November 3 to switch out my summer clothes with some winter clothes, grab what I need to start making Nicole's & John's quilts (fabric is sitting at my house waiting on me), and enjoy some time with my husband. I'll have some time on Monday, October 2 if those of you who are waiting for me to return would like to go ahead and schedule a consultation.

My plan for now is to make the quilts here and ship them back to you when they're finished. I'll have to spend a little extra to rent the quilting machine at a local shop, but I will at least be able to get your quilts made and keep my business open with the little sales I can generate.

For the rest of you, thank you so much for your patience with this whole situation. It has developed into something I didn't expect. I was so sure I'd be home by now.

Happy Fall, Y'all!!!

I didn't get anything done last week when it comes to quilting. I'm still in Missouri with my dad, but get to take this week off at a Church Conference in the Northeast section of Missouri.

My husband arrived Saturday to join me. I know y'all believe me when I say that I am absolutely thrilled to have him with me, even if it's only for a week.

My dad is getting better, but ever so slowly. He can pretty much do everything he needs to do around the house to live on his own again. He still needs help unloading the dishwasher. His balance is still off a bit, and probably will continue to be off a bit based on his history, so he can't stand very long without leaning or holding onto something.

We are still waiting on the VA to approve the adaptive driving controls. Once they get that approved, we'll have a better idea of when I can return home. I'm missing several orders that could be coming in for Christmas delivery. I deeply apologize for the delay, Folks. I'm trying my best to get back to get these orders completed.

When I get back to my dad's next week, I'm going to get some things ordered (even paying retail to get them) so I can get started on the quilts for Sophia and John. I have plenty of time to get the quilt tops finished. I'll just have to wait until I get home to get them quilted and finished.

One of these days I'll have the update we're all waiting for -- the day I'll be able to go home!!!!

Thank you all for being so patient with me. I'm homesick for my home, my husband, my church, and my business. I miss meeting with clients to learn about their loved ones, the memories, the reason they're wanting a memory quilt made for whatever reason. I miss being able to deliver those quilts and watching all the reactions to seeing all the memories quilted with care.

Hello, Everyone!

Last week was a little more productive! While there's no real change to my dad's situation, and still no sight on when I get to go home, I spent a little time designing a patriotic pattern I called Stars & Stripes. Although it could really be made using different colors, the patriotic theme last week coinciding with Patriot Day, 9/11 memorials, and all the emotions that I was feeling while watching all the coverage of what happened 25 years ago. It is ready for purchase on my sight -- I'll share the link below along with a photo of the design.

As I stated, there's no real news to share about when I get to go home. We are still waiting for the Adaptive Controls for Driving to be approved by the VA. Once that is approved, we'll have a better idea of when I get to come home -- the sooner, the better, in my opinion.

Being away from my business has been difficult, to say the least. What was assumed to be a month or so length of caring for my dad has turned in to a couple to a few months. It's disheartening to not be able to schedule consultations for all the Memory Quilts that people are wanting. I'm instructing those who call to get on my email list so I can keep them informed. Let's hope they hang on until I return. And let's hope I get to return sometime in October so I can get started on accepting Christmas orders.

Since this is usually my busiest season, Christmas orders, I'm a little anxious with being away even more. When you run a business, there are still bills to pay even when there's no income flowing into the business. Since my workshop is there in Columbia, SC, I can't get much work done here. All my vendors where I get my fabric and materials only ship to my business address. The Memory Quilts that I've designed while here have fabric & materials waiting for me at my workshop to get started on them.

As you can see, I'm homesick for my husband, my business, BNI peeps, and my life back home. It will happen when it happens. I've put that all in God's hands and I'm just along for the ride. My apologies to those waiting for quilts to be made. Yours will be started as soon as I get back to my workshop (home).

This quilt was made for Stephanie. Her son unexpectedly & traumatically passed away when he was only a teenager. She kept all his things for several years, not having the will to even touch his things. She asked me to come to their home over a year (maybe 2) ago to go over what was possible with what she had. Even then, she hadn't moved his things from his room. She sent me an email a few weeks ago letting me know she was ready to do something with his things. Here is the final result. There are handmade cards for her, a card for Dad, and a photo also included. All the memories are wrapped up into something that will wrap her up in memories of him. When the grief allows happy memories to work their way in, it's time to do something with those memories to keep them visible.

Here is the quilt that I designed and finished all in a week. This is for .elise14 to take to USC this fall. It is a TwinXL so it will fit her dorm bed perfectly. She says she is decorating her room in blue & white.
