Angela Morton Interior Design helped shape the entire interior experience—from the bold overhead signage and wayfinding to the displays, cases, lighting, materials, color palette and all the details in between. Every element was considered to make this incredible space feel unmistakably DLM.

And one of our favorite full-circle details? Angela’s grandfather was the original founder of Dorothy Lane Market. Getting to play a part in the next chapter of something that has been part of her family for generations makes this one pretty special.

A little tension makes a room better.

Crisp white cabinetry, black hardware, warm wood underfoot—and then that oversized floral piece comes in and breaks all the rules in the best way. It gives this kitchen a focal point, a little drama, and just enough color without asking the rest of the space to compete.

What do you do with the weird wall under the stairs? Make it the moment.

Instead of treating that angle like leftover space, this room leans into it with a long, low console that visually follows the staircase and gives the entire open floor plan an anchor.

The mix of weathered wood, glass-front cabinetry, oversized art and sculptural accessories keeps it from feeling overly styled — while the softer dining chairs and drapery balance all that structure with a little ease.

Sometimes the best design decisions come from the parts of a room that initially feel the most awkward.

Sometimes the best design move isn’t to fight the architecture.

Offset windows, pass-throughs, and unavoidable wall openings can make a room feel like it should never work. Instead of forcing perfect symmetry, embrace the imbalance and let your furniture create the visual harmony.

A wall of vintage Vogue covers gives this bedroom its unmistakable personality. With that much color and movement, the remaining elements know when to quiet down: a charcoal channel-tufted bed, powder-blue layers and mirrored nightstands create a polished sense of balance.

Sometimes the “problem” is actually the design opportunity.

Offset windows can make a bedroom feel visually unbalanced if you try to force perfect symmetry. Instead of fighting the architecture, embrace it.

Here, the oversized credenza is intentionally aligned beneath the window, allowing the furniture to “anchor” that side of the room while the upholstered accent chair softly fills the remaining corner. Rather than drawing attention to the window’s off-center placement, the entire composition feels thoughtful, layered, and effortlessly balanced.

Great interior design isn’t always about making a room symmetrical. It’s about making it feel intentional.
